    linearize what?

scanner,rip,printer......What kind of problem do you have?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

      Re: CANON C1 linearization

Here is what I'm trying to do.

I want to understand steps in calibration of Canon C1 copier with Q2 RIP (or any other copier/RIP calibration)

      What I did was:

      1. Did Shading correction from copier and with Fiery - but my question is -
      • what does that correction do. Or to be more precise
      • does it deal with density of patches or with something else?
      • what numbers of copier side means and what happens if manually change them (How does changing number from -1 to 0 affects final printout)

      2. Did Full auto gradation -
      • What does it do?
      • I can't see any huge difference in those three printouts

      3. Did calibration from Fiery
      • Main question is what does calibration do (does it deal with density of color patches or it deals with intensity or both)

      4. Created Output profile with Efi Profile Suite

What is linearization for above mentioned steps or it is something else?

Everything what I measured I did with ES-1000.

I there any manual for that? I just want to understand my enemy so I can beat it

      Thx

I guess Z must write down a novel to really explain it to you.

If you really really want to know about color - first you will have to read about color in general and than jump to specific products like your C1.

In the end though (for most people) - "what you see is in the monitor is what you get" is good enough.

So calibrating the monitor to a known standard would be the first thing to do. Than start with the Fiery procedures.

I am not so sure but I believe there is a help section in the Fiery.

I've searched, nothing useful. They explain what they do, but I want to know how and why.

          All manuals say:

          1. Shading correction (does this step deal with color density or intensity)
          2. Auto gradation
          3. Calibration (from Fiery) (does this step deal with color density or intensity)

I just want to know what every of these steps do. (in short or in details)

          thx

I remember that when I needed such info as you need now - I bought online a couple of books regarding color calibration.
I believe on Amazon. Just search by color calibration and so on.

Of course you have to pay a bit - but - good things ain't cheap ...

                Linearization

Linearization allows you to maintain color accuracy through a proofing device. The baseline linearization establishes a baseline printing standard for your proofer. If you feel your color proofing output is not consistent with press output, you can return to this standard at any time by relinearizing.
NOTE: You must add a proofer before creating a base linearization or relinearizing.
