Canon W8400 wide format printer starts to initialize then the screen goes black.

Any ideas. I have not seen this but will tomorrow. I am told it starts to initialize then the screen goes black. No sign of printhead motor turning on either. If the head is away from home it will not turn on motor to drive it home either. Any ideas on this? no error codes as the screen shuts down.

You've helped me in the past, if you email me at Paul@justmanuals.com, I'll send you the Parts & Service manual at no charge.

      Thanks Paul,
I will help you again if needed. I do have a manual, thanks for the offer. I am thinking it is the carriage relay pcb or in that system, head or something. I am going to look at it here shortly. I think it initializes then when it comes time to send the turn on print head motor check for home etc, I think it shorts out somehow and kills the power. I will disconnect the power to the board and see if the display stays lit. If so I suppose that is it. Been this way for a year, so I also think the printhead is shot too. If all this is so then what I would suggest is a new printhead, carriage pcb and cable. The printhed is probably dry. we are going to see about selling the customer a newer machine.

Re: Canon W8200 wide format printer starts to initialize then the screen goes black.

The machine was actually a w8200, sorry, didnt know til I got there. well I could never narrow it down 100% but what I did come up with was the head. When the head was out and initialization took place it was fine. With the head in place, it would kill the power supply and you would have to wait for it to reset before the machine would turn on again. I am not going to put a new head in for the customer as our customer cost for a head is more than a used car. We are going to try and sell customer a newer style machine and give them some sort of credit for their old one.

So the final cunclusion as far as I can tell is a bad print head. about 80% sure.
