Canon IR2020i feed issue

Hi guys, having a feed issue from both trays. Have followed all bulletins relating to jam code 0104. The D shaped pickup rollers are swinging down, but they're getting stuck in the fully lowered position. Having a hard time narrowing down as to whether or not it's a clutch or possibly the outdated gears. I'm not a Canon tech primarily, but do have access to the SST and firmware etc. It is on the latest firmware of v70. If anyone has seen this issue before advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having jamming in both legal and letter sizes, from tray 1 and tray 2. I can get on average 5 pages out at most when I can actually get it to feed, before having to manually reset the D rollers to their original position. I'm hoping to not have to replace the whole feed ass'y as I've heard it can be a nightmare... Once again, if anyone's had an issue similar, the advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hi....what about the feed clutches..?inspect or replace them.....good luck

That was one of my first assumptions, the clutches were clean upon inspection, but that doesn't mean they're not misfiring... I'll be sure to check into it. Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

check the solenoid, you may see a foam there try to clean it, i've encounter your problem often.

The solenoid is firing without an issue, I don't believe it to be the problem. Will inspect it and report back! Just as soon as I can figure out how to separate the top half of the machine from the first tray without utterly gutting it so I can remove the feed unit... I'm very much disliking this machine.

The solenoid is firing without an issue, I don't believe it to be the problem. Will inspect it and report back! Just as soon as I can figure out how to separate the top half of the machine from the first tray so I can remove the feed unit... I'm very much disliking this machine.

When you start a copy, does the pick-up roller axis turn?

Rollers all have their original ridges and feel very gummy and new still. The pick-up roller axis does turn until it gets stuck in the fully lowered position, occasionally does not turn at all however and will jam up immediately.

The spring and collar were initially missing over a month ago when I first started this call, and upon suggestion of coworkers and bulletins I added an extra wrap to the spring as a measure of caution when I replaced them.

The problem is not that it drops and stays there loose, it requires a fair bit of strength to reset them to their original position - which is no easy task given the extremely limited space of the tray cavity.

I should have mentioned that when it does give off a jam, the paper does not make an attempt to even exit the tray, so I'm confident it's an issue in the pickup system. Opening and closing either the front or side covers will reset the jam condition and it will attempt to pick up again and either feed successfully if the rollers are not locked, or give an immediate jam code again.

I've cleaned off the SR209 sensor as was illustrated in a bulletin, but the jamming causes the 0104 code before it even enters registration to make contact with the SR209 sensor, it was done as a precautionary measure.

I have replaced the clutch and it seems to be working fine without issue. Thanks for the advice everyone!
