Canon iR-ADV 6065 jams in sunlight. Where is the sensor located?

We have a 6065 that is in a room with floor to ceiling glass on the outside wall. On cloudy days and afternoons it works, but on sunny mornings it jams immediately. Canon tells us that sunlight is the problem and experience supports that. I haven't been able to locate the offending sensors to shield them. Help?

(Yes, we should put up curtains or move the printer. That would involve other people...)

    Hi,

    Jam code please.

Re: Canon iR-ADV 6055 jams in sunlight. Where is the sensor located?

000ca4. It's jamming earlier than it did before we moved the printer to a different wall in an attempt to fix the sunlight problem so it's possible that this is a new error in this printer's attempt to drive me mad.

      Also, it's a 6055, not 6065. My bad.

        Hello,

The documentation is poor in this topic. I suppose that the only thing that could be sensitive to daylight is the DADF. I would advise to initialize DADF Sensors by executing in Service mode > Feeder > Function > SENS-INT.

        Good luck.

        Rachid.

No luck. I'm starting to think that this is a different problem. By this time of day there shouldn't be enough direct sunlight to cause problems...

Oh, for crying out loud. I shut down the printer, started it back up, everything's fine now. Argh! This is one of the few Canon printers that we don't have a power conditioner hooked up to so I suppose it's logical that it's the most temperamental.

Thank you for your help. If the sunlight problem reappears tomorrow morning I'll give your SENS-INT suggestion another try.

Check and re-seat the connection of the Sub PCB in the Main Controller PCB 1 Box and the connections of the DC Controller PCB and the main Controller PCB 1.

              Hello,

By the way, does the machine work in printing? Is the issue common to printing and copying?

0CA4 jam code is a "Page Complete Timeout jam".

                Canon Observations
=During the course of a few test runs it was noticed that the lower tray was uneven. One side looked higher than the other. The solution was to make the lower tray even by removing the tray and realigning it, one side was off about 2 gear teeth. The reason why it was jamming was because it was not actuating the paper level sensor properly when the tray would ascend to the delivery area of the finisher. Since the tray was uneven, the tray would not actuate the actuator properly. This is in relation to the sensor actuator listed in Technical Publication TP12 126 (open the attachment).
                TP12 126.pdf

Also during the course of investigating 0CA4 jams, it was noticed that they can also occur because of machine and finisher firmware versions, proper actuation of sensor/switch triggered doors and covers, and of course proper tray sensor actuation.

The issue was common to printing and copying. teckat's description of error 0CA4 matches what I saw. I just checked the printer on this bright sunny morning and it's working fine. So, moving the printer so that it's opposite the window on the inside wall rather than perpendicular with the finisher pointed at the window fixed the sunlight problem. Our glitchy 50-year-old campus electrical system, which is well overdue for an overhaul, caused the 0CA4 error. All sorts of weirdness happens if power conditioners aren't used on these copiers. I mistakenly assumed that moving the printer merely caused jams to happen earlier in the printing process.

I did print out that TP12-126 pdf and will check our printers. It doesn't appear to be an immediate problem but it's good to know.

                  Thanks for your help everyone.

                    Note:

poor voltage (a drop of more than 10% during printing)mostly effects the printer options (Finishers-Decks-DF's)
surge protectors do not help that issue> u need an electrician to check outlet--

all of these large iR's & iRADV printer should be on a dedicated line / salesman fault if not / customer fault if cheap-

                    prevents wasted service calls
