Canon wide format IPF 8000 valve motor keeps running non-stop

I am having a bit of a time figuring this one out at the moment. Both motors at the color cartridge units, the left one and the right one keep running non-stop with no error. I do have a manual on this both parts and service. The agitation sensor and the cam sensor show and work good. have 3.3 volts at the sensors as should be. All inks have ink in them, I chnaged one that was a maybe. No indication it was out but it sure felt like it was empty while holding it in my hand. All ink tubes are full, no bubbles or air that I can see. pin 5 1n 10 of connector 2402 and 2502 show 3.3 volt, weird neither changed states though. I need to relook at the manual to be sure I have the right pins. I haven't taken a closer look at the pins configuration yet. I am going back to button up the covers and do some research, making sure I get the correct pins etc. Might need to remove the assemblies to see If I can see anything odd. I did check and reconnect all connectors on the main pcb. I only see these machine one a year maybe but now I have had three in about a month. the truth is I am not all that familiar with these so I am asking you.
In the meantime I will try and break the code on this and figure it out. Thanks for your ideas and suggestions.

I am struggling with this one. i think you are right about the system pcb. After checking voltages etc. I see no problem. I also did a firmware update. The thing that makes me think it is a board processing error is that when I put it into service mode it stopped. I was able to print a status sheet. What it is doing is it is stuck in cleaning mode, it kept saying cleaning mode do not shut off etc.
B.S. I shut it down after I realized this isn't going to stop until it runs the ink dry. teckat... where did you get your info from? have you had it happen to you? or just a guess?
I cant remember the board name at the moment as I am not looking at the SM at the moment. But will look into the price for a new board. never fails has to be a chargeable customer, I have to be right the first time. Yes it does. just makes sense at this moment that it is the board. The program on the board is fouled up. Somehow service mode and user mode is diverted in different directions or just not turned on at all. I would say not turned on at all. Not sure if it will print in service mode, haven't tried it. If it does,it will buy the customer more time, and me too. Another I did as a test I unplugged each cam sensor and it knew it and errored out. So that is what led me to believe there was no reason for this to be running. All sensors work, all lines are full, no need to clean head either. I wonder just for a moment if the head is sending a signal back to say"clean me"? No way. It cleans on startup, if you say clean, when you shut down and when you purge it. Another point of interest was at one time I was looking at the screen and it says replenishing ink. Just after that it tried to drain it again? I wonder if there is a way to hack this machine, virus I mean, that would be a good one there. Dang ink companies anyway. $3000 a gallon for ink, C'mon, that is worth more than Gold!
Oh I will replace the board and see what happens, or sell them another machine whichever is cheaper.

Motor control function
This function controls the carriage motor, feed motor, valve motor, purge motor, lift motor based on the input signals from sensors.

Main controller components
Driver IC (IC3900)
This IC generates valve motor(L) control signals based on the control signal from the ASIC.
Driver IC (IC2900)
This IC generates purge motor and valve motor(R) control signals based on the control signal from the ASIC.

When printer gets booted in normal mode it would start replenishing inks and that never stops. By booting in the Service mode, printer would bypass replenishing inks and Print Nozzle Patterns in both operator mode and service mode look good with no problems.


After confirming that all ink lines are filled with ink and no air bubbles are present, replacing the Main Controller PCB resolved the problem.

That figures. Here I am thinking I am a smart character and all I had to do is look on the Canon support site? Thanks for the info, yes this is exactly right. You are dead on. Thanks. I have an excuse, I am a redneck. Not used to going to Canon support anymore as I have moved to the printer field a few years ago. used to go to canon all the time. Why i didnt think to go there is beyond my imagination. Good grief. I did try to call them today and oh you are not qualified on this machine. I looked through my transcripts and sure enough I am not. I wonder if I should of got granfathered in on that one. I did on the 710 I think Since I had done the w6400 and some other old ones back in the day. You know for some reason I have this block about wide format printers. I guess I dont see enough of them.
Anyhow This is good news about the board. kudos and all the fine trimmings for you for Thanksgiving!
