    [Error Code] Canon ImageRunner C3220 - Error Code E000020-01b0

    I have recently bought a rebuild kit for my drums. I followed all the instructions and rebuilt it. When i try to make a color copy, i keep getting error code E000020-01b0. When i try to make a black and white copy i get error code E000020 - 04b0 which tells me that its not just one drum.

    I replaced the chips on the drums before replacing the developer - could this have caused the problem? Can it be fixed by replacing just the chips?
    Can anyone give me some advice on what to do here?

    Thanks in advance!

    E020 -There is a fault associated with the drum/developer.
    the first 2 digits of detail code
    xx=01: Y
    xx=02: M
    xx=03: C
    xx=04: Bk

    xxB0=The drum unit is approaching the end of its life and is causing the T/D ratio to drop. The ATR sensor has an open circuit.It is detected when toner supply operation is started.
    lack of developer & toner ratio-------------who changes chips in the USA ??

    changing chips u made your bed >now lay in it

    Bottom line>Customer buys Drums & Toner---unless included in a contract--
    if they don't want to buy products >> they can >

    E020 with sub code of 01B0, 02B0, 03B0, 04B0.

    If the drum units have been removed repeatedly without the drum guide service tool it's possible to break one or both tabs (see picture below).
    These tabs open the toner hopper when the drum unit is slid in, and if they are broken, toner will not be fed into the drum unit.

    NOTE: The unit may work for a while until the developer to toner ratio drops enough to cause an error.

      Did u replace compatible drum. We had a similar problem with irc3180, with compatible drum. Try using org stuff.

        Yes, the secret to a reliable machine is ONLY USE ORIGINAL CANON PARTS!
        The black drums leak after 200% anyway so even fitting a new cylinder & developer it will still leak, this leaking toner gets everywhere in the machine & WILL CAUSE YOU MORE PROBLEMS, like a slipping ITB etc.

        The chips don't do anything on the drum, they are only there to show in % how much on the drum has expiered.

        Toner chips however ARE essential if you are re-filling the toner containers.

          Thank you for your responses.
          I understand that its always better to purchase original parts. But, since i have already used a refurbish kit for the drums, and have this problem, is there anything i can do to fix it - without replacing the drums completely?

          @teckat- the tabs on all four drums are in tact.

            u then have a poor ratio of developer to toner-------------------------or just plain old drums ( surface area of drum is depleted>worn out> this is not repairable> how old are these DRUMS ????

            i never do or intend to ever try a kit---------

            what comes in these kits ?? starter and toner ?? / what exactly is included ?

            post the instructions----------------------------u used / maybe can help

              I dont know the exact age of the drums - they look to be in pretty good condition.

              The kit included a Replacement Drum, Reset Chip, and Developer.
              Attached are the instructions that i used.

                Looks like a right messy nightmare fitting those kits, I suspect that when you fitted the kit you didn't empty out all the developer so when you added the new developer the unit now has too much hence the t/d ratio error code!

                Sorry but there is really nothing you can do other than fits new canon drum units, or fitting a new kits, but make sure you clean out all the old developer, wear gloves & a boiler suit!

                Hope this helps.

                  A mess indeed!!
                  But i actually did clean out all the old developer before pouring in the new one. Perhaps i put in too much? Do you think taking some out would help?

                    I would guess they give you just the right amount of developer for one drum unit, as how would you know how much too add!?
                    Find out how long the kits are been in the machine, it might be a simple case of the drums are worn.
                    Like I said above, fit a new kit, or if you want the machine to run trouble free FIT CANON DRUM UNITS!

                      Color laser equipment has to many variables to consider when using compatible supplies or parts. Is the toner original or compatible? I like all others posting back , would USE GENUINE SUPPLIES ONLY. You are going into unknown territory and the results will vary greatly, none of which are good for you or the rest of the equipment.

                        Thank you everyone for the help and input.
                        I just replaced the chips on all 4 drums and that seemed to fixed everything.
