IR C3220 drums

We have a Canon c3220 that has an error message E000020-04b0. I understand that this is indicating the need to replace the black drum unit.

When checking the drum life in the service menu, all color drums are at around 285% and the black drum is at 360%.

I have read in some other posts the recommendation to replace all the drums at the same time. Would that make sense here?

Beyond the physical drum replacement, is there any other adjustments or setting that need to be made on the machine as part of this process?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, replace all of them as a set, they are plug and play.

i have to dis-agree on changing them all, you can go into the consumable status and check the life left of the all the units. the black gets used more than any other color and would normally run out first. at the cost of them WHY ?

The reasoning behind my first reply is the drums all turn at the same time whether printing black only or full color. The developers for each drum unit do turn on and off individually with each color used, this is how the life is counted, I think. You can replace these drums as each one fails but the likelyhood of a drum failure during a long unattended run could be costly in wasted toner, time and paper.

i think a lot of it would also depend on who's buying them, the customer on a billable and or pro rate status or the dealer as a contract obligation, if the dealer i would run each color separately and check the condition of the cq and make a judgement call from there, as far as toner use its irrelevant as each unit comes pre-toned and just replenishes as used from the dv.. its much cheaper to send a tech out 3-6 months later than replace a $275 unit times 3, blacks cheaper.. my customers can change them themselves and some prefer to do so, they call and tell us what color is not quite right and diagnose over the phone and ship one they have it next day and end of story

I was leaning toward replacing all simply based upon the high life %. With all the color drums up to 285%, how much longer can they be "pushed"?

Copy quality is still good though...

run em till they blow! if you run this machine hard they last longer a lot of times than if it hardly used will rarely make it to stated yield

Replace them as a set you will be replacing the other ones soon anyway I have tried just replacing one and not the others only to get a call to go back out a week or two later to replace the others.
I agree with the above post that the black does tend to get used more then the others so in the end its up to you and your budget...I would buy them all and at least have them available when you need them....

I ended up just replacing the black (I do have all colors on hand, ready to go when needed). I ran test prints and the colors still look great, so I guess I'll wait on those.
