    IR 400 Constant paper jam

How do I find out what is going on with this machine? The error is on the right vertical path I guess. There is nothing broken or stuck in the machine. How do I determine which sensor is in error? * 28 * then what. I looked under errors and there aren't any. Is there an input /output check for the sensors? This machine only has 50K original copies. Is this a common error? Any help would be appreciated.

Start with the jam code from service mode. How are the feed rollers?

If you are referring to the jam history in functions mode, it is blank. No listing. The jam cannot be cleared by opening the right side access doors as asked by the machine display. It will not clear if I turn the machine on and off. It's a power on jam. There is nothing in the machine. Apparently this has happened before and when I get there it was working. Now it won't. I only have an Intravia manual and it doesn't list inputs/outputs so I can't test the sensors. Do you think it might be a bad connection and reconnecting the wires my help? I would change the PF unit if I still had one. This is a pristine IR 400. It is a blue & white one with barely 50K on it. Still looks like new. This is the first problem they've ever had. I thought surely I could solve a paper jam. Yeah, right.

1.Service mode-Copier-I/O-page 4 has the input/output for all the sensors, should all be 0's.

2.Since there was no jam listed under copier-display-jam, it sounds like you might have a 5v dc short to ground. Or the sensor in the fuser is unplugged. There is a connector on the fuser toward the front. It is just 2 pins and easy to forget after a fuser rebuild.

3.On those it is possible the left door catches the wiring toward the rear of the fuser and can unplug or damage the wiring. The cover for that wire harness is a PITA to put back on and easily pinch the wires or just gets thrown away.

4.This is mostly for older ones (age or 2+ mil) but check the 2 fuser exit sensors on the left door. The sensors and actuator get extremely brittle with age and need replaced. Cut any wire-ties there too.

Thanks for the input/output info. I'll look there. So you think it could be a fuser sensor even though it tells me the jam is on the paper entry right side of the machine. I was leaning toward a paper feed unit sensor. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out which one it is with the display of sensors. We'll see tomorrow.

There is no jam history in function mode. Thats where you clear the history. Jam history is under display/jam. You got offered a manual for under $13 in this thread. Not a bad thing to have on hand for tougher problems like this.
