[Misc] IRC3580i; we want to delay it answering the phone to receive a fax

    Hi, everyone,

Is there a way to program this machine so it will wait X seconds before answering the phone to receive a fax? We have it hooked up to a regular phone line we also use for voice. But it answers immediately, and we can't hear the caller over the fax noises. I have searched the manuals (available here: *Manuals for iRC3580/3580i/3080/3080i/2380i), but couldn't find anything relevant.

    Thank you.

Facsimile modems are generally expected to auto-answer after two rings.
If the modem answers within thirty seconds (approximately 4.5 rings), auto-reception should occur.

You can effectively disable auto reception by setting the ring count to a value much higher than 4 (for example, 25; max. 99).
No sending unit is generally programmed to wait this long. Also, some phone systems will not allow you to wait on-line that long without generating a warning message.
To set the number of rings see the following:

      For fax-enabled imageRunners
-Enter Service Mode on the device then select Fax to enter the Fax Service Mode.

      For stand-alone fax units
      -Enter the Fax Service Mode.

set the G3 fax board to manually receive incoming faxes

The AutoRX/ManualRX selection is accessible from the 'Received Job Status' folder after setting a soft switch in service mode, use the following procedure to access this function:

      1. Enter service mode then select: Fax/NCU/SpecialB/SW27, highlight SW27 then bit 7 to change it's value from 0 to 1 then press OK. Exit service mode. (This will make the autorx/manualrx selection available in user settings).
      2. On the lower right of the machine display select 'System Monitor'.
      3. Then select the 'Fax' icon at the bottom center of the display.
      4. Select 'Received Job Status folder at the top center of the screen.
      5. Select either 'Manual RX, or Auto RX' at the right of the display and press 'DONE' at the bottom right for the setting to take effect.

Note: If you set the unit for manual receive mode you will see a message at the bottom left of the display telling you the unit is in manual receive mode.
