    After market HDD for Canon's

Has any one had any success with After market HDD's.
Canon is so expensive. I have tried some after market ones but its hard to find 80G HDD's.
right now canon wants $350 for a new HDD. it is cheaper to by old laptop computers with 80GB HDD and us it.

    not all take 80gb HDD

many aftermarket HDD's work> trick is knowing what to use>
newer models have the HDFormat.ift file encrypted so u can't view the HDD options

On some older models the HDFormat.ift file is viewable for the HDDDescriptor so it can be modified

Re: After market HDD for Canon's

The dealer I work for has ordered some refurbished hdds in the past with considerable cost savings. Prob about half price or so of new. I think we got them either from hytec repair services in florida or nationwide repair services of KC, mo. The downfall is they dont last as long as oem part. If you install this in an older machine such as canon 3300 series 4570 series etc prob would be beneficial considering machine upgrade is coming soon. So if you only need the machine to last another year or two might be worth the gamble. For details check out hytecrepair.com or nwrsinc.com. Good luck!

Re: After market HDD for Canon's

I had to put a new HDD in a Canon 2380i recently but everything I tried didn't work.
I have an old Ricoh 3260 in the office with 4 80GB HDD's in and one of these worked in it.

So the answer is find a second hand Ricoh 3260 and take the HDD's out!! Simple. ;-)

Thanks for the info on editiing the HDD format program.
