[Misc] IRC3080 bypass paper size detection failure

A coworker of mine is having a problem with an IRC3080 detecting the size of paper placed into the machine's bypass tray. According to the information I have, if paper is put into the bypass tray, all the paper size buttons are grayed out, and the machine says "the specified size does not conform to the position of the guides".
Full disclosure: while we work on Canon and Lanier (Ricoh) machines, I am mostly Lanier tech, the only Canons I am currently trained on are the wide format printers. This doesn't sound like the document feeder reading wrong sizes problem for Laniers (clean up the slider contacts and give them a coat of conductive grease), so I just wanted to ask for suggestions.

      try this---------------

Set Stack Bypass Standard Settings to "Off" in Common Settings from the Additional Functions screen

      or---
Compare the manual feed settings under COPIER>ADJUST>CST-ADJ with the factory door settings.

check and set correctly for the following.
      COPIER > ADJUST > CST-ADJ > MF-A4R
      COPIER > ADJUST > CST-ADJ > MF-A6R
      COPIER > ADJUST > CST-ADJ > MF-A4
**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**

          Note:
          to Iowatech/

apply no grease to these slide guides or contacts on Canon imageRunner Manual feed trays or ADF Trays
