    Canon IR 1310 fuser removal.

Anyone that can give a hint to the method of removing the fuser unit. Tried and couldn't figure it out. I have a new one on order and would like to figure it out before I try again. I have access to Canon to download manuals but I no service manual seems to be available on the site.

Its been a while since i remove the fuser. I believe you have take off the reader portion. The part that slides to the side, as if when you have to replace the drum cartridge. after removing the reader, under that you should see some holes where you can remove the screws for the fuser. I hate this little machine.

i'm not familiar with that model but it sounds very similar to a d680. that reader method is the textbook method but i usually just remove the three or four cover around the exit and then reach in with a right angle screwdriver and torch to access the 3 ? screws. its a bit tight but the fuseer can then be removed through the exit end. (undo two or three cables first.) hope this helps. i've done dozens of d680 fusers this way.

I hoping to avoid removing that but I will do what I have to. After removing some covers in the way I did remove two screws from the fuser with a special socket wrench like screwdriver. Fuser seems loose but just does not free itself from the machine. What else holds it down besides the two screws I wonder. Was hoping to find a shortcut to getting it out vs tearing the whole thing down. Thanks for the tip though. If I can find the correct method I will do what ever that is. I just don't want to start disassembling things I don't need to and making matters more worse than needed.

On the illustration provided by teckat you can see there are 3 screws not 2
Also you have to lift the unit up a bit and remove , one side first.

I still work on this model occasionally!

It is actually but easier to remove the fixing unit without removing the scanner, also when removing the scanner you run the risk of damaging the fragile ribbon cables, trust me on that!

It sounds like you have the correct tool; you need a small ratchet with a Phillips screwdriver head.

Yes there are 3 screws to get the fixing unit out, 2 large self-tappers & one stand metal type, then 3 connections.

The fixing unit is a bit of a struggle to get in/out, just keep wiggling it carefully it will come out.

This is a pretty poorly designed machine, however with a new fixing unit & genuine cartridge they seem to chug along well.

status update. Thanks for the instructions. It worked out great. I think that when taking the glass off it is still faster than using a right angle screw driver. It don't take long to do.

Is it wrong that I've never taken off the back cover to get to the 1310 fuser? lol So glad these are on their way out. 1023 fuser removal's a little fun too.

i usually can do the whole job in 15 to 30 mins but when re-assembling i replace the 3 inside screws with hex head machine screws in case i ever have to get in there again. i've had 200k or more out of these copiers. only other thing that really gave trouble was the transfer roller area filled up with toner ( refilled cartridge) and shorted out transfer voltage. a quick vac and it was all right again.

I actually never remove the back cover either. Not bad. 15 minutes to remove and install.
