    Canon CLC3220 C1 won't boot after update

Hi guys. I need a small help on this one.
The customer gets a used CLC 3220 vith C1 fiery both the machine and fiery on german. There was not any other language installed on machine. So i hooked up with SST to update language and when I was there update rest of the system. Only thing that was updated was DCON and language since other was up to date. I also reinstall fiery software to get it on english. All went ok. After I turned machine on the fiery won't boot. I get a setup screen, it passes all diagnostic, clear server done, but when it continue boot ( wait a moment...blah blah) it goes shut down. I never before seen that screen that says fiery is going shut down and turn it off on backside of machine.
When compare P-print before and after update, only difference was DCON from some old version to fresh 38.02 and english 90.03. I tried to change IMG-CONT to 0 and back to 3 but nothing changes. I pull out fiery and both boards and take it to other 3220 and get choose language screen on fiery. So here it works fine. On this machine DCON ver is 37.XX ( i didn't remember number), and everything else is the same. When I get it back it goes down.
What can be the reason to fiery shut down?

PS Sorry for my bad english. Cheers

So the Fiery works fine on another 3220? What is the fw version on that machine, i mean mcon version. I remeber that C1 with fw 1.x only worked with machine mcon lower as 50.xx. If you have mcon +50 than u need C1 with FW 2.0

Did u try to reseat the interface card in the mcon?

Btw, these machines ROCK. Color is on par with Advance C70xx and once serviced on with 4M on the counter, still spotless.

Re: Canon CLC3220 C1 won't boot after update

      Hi Fer. Thanks for reply.
Fiery is C1v2. On both machines MCON is the same ver.
They certainly rocks. This machine is 250k so it would be shame dump it.

Hm. I just realize that I was wrong. The machine with non working fiery is CLC 2620, so thread name is wrong. But I think it's the same software and that isn't matter. Also SST allows me to upload the software. So on the 2620 with DCON 38.02 it won't boot and in the 3220 with DCON 37.XX it works just fine.

      Cheers

Teckat is right, try this first. If that does not work, i would suggest you to dowmgrade to an earlier Firmwre Version

I don;t remember the 3200 series having a proper shutdown, only for the Fiery itself there is one in the printer menu.

How to properly shut down the imageRUNNER-iR Series and imagePRESS Series machines

These models have a Shutdown Mode function that should be used before powering off the machine. Shutting the machine down properly will help protect the data on the machine's hard drive. Use the following procedure:

                1. Enter Shutdown Mode by either of the following methods:

I - Press Additional Functions > Common Settings > Shut Down Mode.
                or
II - Hold down the ON/OFF Power button on the machine's control panel for 5 seconds (NOT the ON/OFF Power switch on the side of the machine's main body).

                2. The Shutdown Mode screen will appear on the machine's LCD screen. It will display the processes currently running on the machine.

                3. Press the Start button on the LCD screen (lower corner of display)to begin the shutdown process.
                4. Wait until the shutdown process finishes. When it is finished, the following message will be displayed:

'Turn OFF the Main Power Switch (on the main unit's right side).'

                ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                * Forced Off Option
                - If the shutdown process is taking too long and you must power down the machine as soon as possible, you can hit the Forced Off button on the LCD screen. This will stop the finishing process of the hardware and/or updating of the device data. The 'Turn Off the main power switch (on the main unit's right side)' message will appear almost immediately. THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

It is best to let the shutdown process finish before
                powering off the main unit.

                * The newer machines will power off themselves at the end of this process. There is no need to use the power switch on the side of the machine's main body to power down the unit.

                5. Turn off the ON/OFF switch on the side of the machine's main body to power down the unit.

                  Hi, Teckat

Able to share with us any Servcie Mode settings to enable the Shutdown mode for iRC32xx? Seems like our region don't have it as default. Thanks in advance.

Sorry , to mislead but the
Common Settings > Shut Down Mode
                    is in 5180 series/
                    ---------------------------------------------------
& also Control Panel Power Switch method
Press to turn the control panel ON or OFF. When
the control panel power switch is held for more
than three seconds, it initiates the Shutdown
                    mode.
                    -------------------------------------------------------

Trying to remember all these differant shut down procedures/ drives me nuts----------

                    Believe on the 3200/3220----------
If you want to turn the main power OFF, u should first turn the control panel power ON/OFF switch
                    OFF
, and then press the main power switch on machine side.

                    sorry for the confusion
getting a little brain freeze at my age

of course with a Fiery/ u always use inside the Printer tab menu to shut down from there--

                        Hi all. Thanks for replays.
I tried to reseat interface boards, swap working cables, swap working interface boards, do exactly as teckat wrote but nothing changes. Just after boot, fiery goes shutting down. I don't have an earlier version of software, so if anyone does please send it to me.
I take a picture of Mcon and interface board on backside of machine. Take a note of this red leds on both boards. Any ideas? Cheers

Lets bring this thread to the life. Exactly as teckat wrote. The problem is still here. This is what I have done.
I downgraded system software on CLC2620 to ver. 87.01, but still the same. I pull out from CLC2620 the following:
                            1. Fiery C1V2
                            2. I/F board
                            3. LAN Network board
                            4. Fiery cable ( from fiery to I/F board)
                            5. Patch cable (from fiery to lan board)
                            6. BOOT ROM module
                            7. Memory modules
                            8. HDD
All above installed on CLC3220 in my shop and it all works. This is service report printout and fiery printout with CLC2620 parts.
                            CLC2620 fiery printout.jpgCLC2620 printout.jpg
And below is service report printout and fiery printout without changing parts on CLC3220.
                            CLC3220 fiery printout.jpgCLC3220 printout.jpg
                            Facts:
                            1. All mentioned parts from CLC2620 works fine on CLC3220.
                            2. All mentioned parts from CLC3220 doesn't work on CLC2620.
                            3. All mentioned parts from CLC2620 doesn't work on CLC2620.
                            4. Only difference between system softwares on these units is DC-CON ( V37.06 on CLC3220 and V38.02 on CLC2620 )
                            5. Only difference between fiery printouts is hardware (v2.00/0/0x0203 on CLC3220 and v2.00/1/0x0503 on CLC2620)
                            6. Both RIP's was updated with same software for C1V2

Any ideas? I will go on machine on Saturday and it's about time to resolve this mystery...
                            Cheers

PS Anyone have older system software for main unit or fiery?

this is NOT a software issue/ with either 2620 of this C1 v2 Fiery-

was proven by the swap of parts-

not sure if I asked these ?'s

1-will 2620 boot to ready state to copy without C1 fiery connected ?
2-when C1 fiery is connected> what do the C1 DIAG LED's show ? how many on/off if any
3- when C1 is connected > what is the state of the 2620 > ready/ waiting / progress bar stall location/ other

we can now eliminate >the Fiery>the boot rom>the HDD>MEMORY>cables>nic>I/F- because we know they all function in 3220-

now what is left is the obvious > to work on>
                              1.-the 2620 printer interior itself > shorts/pinch wires/poor ground/voltage output to major pcb's
                              2.-it's interior cables/connections
                              3.-main pcb ?
4.- think of other / will return later
