          Stop the printing/copying process of large format while working by opening the front door. The mashine will stop imedeatly. How does the toner picture on the drum surface looks like? Do you use original canon toner?
          Maybe the pre exposure lamp, as teckat suggest is bad, but i would assume, that in this case the potential control would freak out, throwing an e-xxx error.
          Take out the developing unit and have a look at the developer roller, is the toner coating equal? what about the distance rollers? are they ok, not worn out or blocked?
          Drum scraper ok and not blocked in movement?
          The picture is really small, but it seems, that the "print free areas" (sorry, i dont know how to spell it correctly) are coated also, so at last a laser error may be possible too.

            Hello,

            This seems to be a drum potential issue.

            Keep in mind that in this model the laser "writes"

            In COPIER > DISPLAY > DPOT, reccord and compare the following values:

            1- VL1T: Is the reference value of the drum potential when the laser is "ON".
            VL1M: Is the measured value of the drum potential when the laser is "ON".
            VL1M = VL1T +/- 10 volts.
            If this is note the case, there is a laser intensity issue and the prints will be lighter.

            2- VDT : is the reference value of the drum potential when the laser is "OFF"
            VDM : is the measured value of the drum potential when the laser is "OFF"
            VDM = VDT+/- 10 volts
            If this is not the case, there is a drum potential issue: Primary corona, HV PCB, Preconditining lamps... The white surfaces of the prints are darker.

              Looks like a toner issue to me .try vacuuming the dev unit out and adding fresh from the bottle by pouring some in .
              Used to happen on np copiers with crap toner from 3rd parties

                When does the LASER not write in an imageRunner ??

                        Clean Laser Unit thoroughly and adjust primary corona wires, this should do the trick.
