I have a Canon ir1021i in U.K, (i believe its an iMAGE RUNNER 1022i in USA) colour mc that asked to replace black toner as the toner /drum cartridge had done its life.The customer got a new black drum/toner sent out to them as its a customer replaceable item on this model.She put the new toner cartridge in after following the instructions and the placed a call.I attended the call and could only assume it was a faulty unit.Went back with another black unit installed it as i have done many times closed the front door the mc goes through its cycle as if its preparing the new black unit then after about 3 mins comes up with message please replace black toner. Any help appreciated on this please

There is a pcb with photo leds on it at the inner backside of the printer througt which the toner detection is managed, may be something is wrong in this area. Have a closer look and see, what the i/o check says.If sometimes you feel a little useless, offended and depressed always remember that you were once the fastest and most victorious sperm of hundreds of millions! -

are these OEM Parts
this series has had this issue since 2009/ bad OEM's /bad DCPCB's/toner detection pcb------
make sure all the protection material has been removed using tab pull out on drum u
check the New cartridge sensor flag in side printer--**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

Toner Cartridge Detection
The time required until the rotating drum motor stops varies depending on the presence/absence of the toner cartridge. When the toner cartridge is present, the load applied to the drum motor increases, which shortens the stop time.
The DC controller detects the presence/absence of the toner cartridge based on the stop time of the drum motors (M6 to 9) after the initial drive of the drum motors when the power is turned ON or the front cover is closed.
When it is determined that the toner cartridge is absent, the DC controller stops the machine's operation and displays "No toner cartridge" on the control panel
====> When closing the front door, the Black drum driving system doesn't engage. You may have to replace the following part:RC1-6643-020 LEVER, LOCK SLIDE, RIGHT.
It is important to follow the steps in the documentation.

I have had 3 of these Units with broken Left Locking Levers inside the machine for the Black Cartridge, remove 2 Cartridges and compare the Levers.Comment
