Canon IRc3380 - Grey background after BK drum replacement

    Hi guys,

As stated above, I have a IRC 3380 which is giving a grey background after replacing the bk drum. It works fine for a day or so and then the grey background comes back. Its also ghosting, but where its ghosting the text comes out white as theres no toner being printed there. I open the machine up, reseat the drum and close it up and it works fine again. Did over 60 pages after reseating it this time and still fine. This was the 2nd time Ive been out for this issue. Ive checked/cleaned all the contacts for the drum, ITB and transfer roller, checked the drum drive cogs at the rear for binding, cleaned all the laser glasses, reseated the ITB. The drum is a genuine canon and also all genuine toners being used.

Today the machine was backgrounding, the BK toner needed replacement, which the customer did and then the problem stopped. Weird. Almost like opening and closing the machine was enough to make it all work properly again.

Any ideas in case I get another phone call?

    hello,

Start by updating the DC-CON to the latest version (66.02). The black drums are causing different issues.

    Rachid.

Hmmm, interesting.......were the prints ghosting/background before replacing the K-Drum Unit? It seems like a bad Drum/Dev Unit connection - clean connectors at the rear of the Drawer Unit and also the rear of the machine.

Hey canonbundy, nope the machine wasnt playing up at all before I installed the new Drum/dev unit - thats why Im a bit perplexed by this issue. I havent checked the rear of drawer connections, although I had the drawer opened the callout before I installed the new drum - maybe a few days earlier - and there was no ghosting before the new drum went in...after saying that it's still sounding like an issue with the drum!

          Cheers!

Well Bearl, seems like you've done all the right stuff, maybe check the Drum Life in SRV MODE > DISPLAY > MISC and make sure the Counter has reset to '0'.
If you have another old/used unit try it as an experiment otherwise create a P-PRINT and claim a warranty.

Thanks for the info Canonbundy! I've been trying to find out information regarding the upgrade of the firmware, but as Im not a canon authorized agent im finding it hard to get anywhere. Would I be correct that you require canons service software to do the firmware upgrade? Is there anyway of getting that software and the firmware? Surely I dont have to get canon in to do it do I? When I worked for a canon agent I dont remember it being that hard to do it :/

              Cheers!

Hi Bearl, to check the current F/W version press the Counter button & highlight 'Device Config' version will be next to MCONT, from memory the latest is about 95.01.
Yes, SST (Service Support Tool) is a Program which is required to Upload the F/W via PC or USB (Downloaded from the Canon Service Site) , it's a lot more involved than selecting a Driver, downloading then installing.

                  Hi !

It may be the ITB belt unit that can be bad.
