    [Electrical] IR2016i freezes - won't start up

    Hi all,

I am an owner of a Canon IR2016i (bought in 2007, counter on 11.000!!)
    The problem with this machine is that somewhere during the night it will lock up;
When I come in the office in the morning the screen will be lit but there is nothing on it and the fan is blowing (at medium speed). It won't respond to the controll panel or touch screen.
I have to start it up by turning the power off and on again.
When I turn the power on the "canon" splah screen comes on and after 7 seconds (6.9) it turns off and the machine will return to the state described above.
After multiple tries (sometimes 3, sometimes 50) it will boot up normally, and continues to work the rest of the day.....Until somewhere during the night it locks up again.

Has any of you seen this before? or has anyone have an idea where this problem comes from or how to solve it?

I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance.

have u check or monitored the wall outlet voltages
especially the Neutral >to Ground = 0v/0.5v should be max for it-

Check or Replace the DDR module

Try re-seating ROM if you haven't already. Clean contacts with a dry eraser before re-seating.

On your "i" model try re-seating the USB extension located top left of the IP pcb as well.
Only the "i" models will have this USB extension and you should see it glowing when machine is powered on.

I think you should re-upgrade firmware and check subsequently other part

Hope to get good news from you soon

I have checked the outlet voltage which is 225 volts. The zero to ground measured 2,5 Volts! So I got power from an other outlet, trough an extension cord. Zero to ground 0,06 Volts. This though did not solve the problem. Troughout the rest of the testing I have used this extension cord.

I have taken out the DDR and replaced it, I don't have another module. I would have to order it. It seems to me like a regular SODIMM 256 MB, do you know which type / clockspeed?

I re-seated the ROM as you suggested.
The USB extension seems to function properly, glowing led.

I powered it up and after about 50 times it booted properly.

It looks as if I have to power op much more often before it boots since I re-seated these parts. Which might lead to the conclusion that the problem is somewhere in the area of the main controller(board).

I hope you have some suggestions left??

Re-upgrade firmware, as Nghia Luu suggests (thanks!)??
          Current firmware:
          Main: WLaa-09-01
          Option: WLaa-09-01
          Boot: WLaa-07-02
          ECONT: 0502

Thanks for you help, so far!

              Hi,

Removing the NIC doesn't change things.
I guess I better call a Canon Technician to help me with the firmware. I doesn't look like a simple job, even if I had the necessary software.

              Thanks for your effort.

                Re: IR2016i freezes - won't start up

                Hi,

                Problem solved!
I've contacted Canon in the Netherlands, and explained the situation.
Though it took only 2 weeks to send someone over, he was able to fix the problem in no time.
He downloaded the latest firmware and the machine was running again. He told me the "frozen" display state was (fortunately) the download state.

After that I told him I would set up the SMB - scan to file stuff myself.
This took me another week (not full time) to find out I should not set the server name the name of the computer to which i want to send the files. I got a message (once) from windows that the was a duplicate name in the network.

                Canon_SMB_settings.JPG

This worked fine for about five years on the old firmware of the copier. The sending goes alot faster now, so I guess the duplicate name has alwasy been a problem. Also when I choose an SMB adress for file sending I'm able to browse the SMB network. This was not possible before.

I hope this helps other people. I have seen many questions mentioning the same problem.

                Thanks for your help.
                All the best!
