[Error Code] Recurring E000007 (Fixing Unit) Problems

Guys, I have a Canon IR-3245i on contract that keeps tearing the fixing film. I replaced the fixing unit with a rebuilt one from a supplier in Texas and about 3 months later it tore it up again. I got another one from the same place and the second one only lasted about 2 more months. I ordered another rebuilt unit from another supplier and again it only lasted for a few months. I called the supplier and they sent me a replacement. Now the my Customer is calling back with the same problem. From what I can see, it seems that the fixing film is walking to the left and eventually tearing. I have been very careful to make sure I mount the fixing unit correctly on the copier. I hate to replace the fixing unit with a new one and possibly having the same problem.

Is anyone out there having this problem? Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Juan

Did you do pressure roller, bearings, and heatsink roller too? Also there's a rubber gear on the LFR that drives the fixing film. Check to see that's not slipping on the shaft but chances are she's loose and you'll need to clean it with alcohol.

Based on you mentioning that you replaced the fixing unit I assume you did not just replace the film unit.
Also, to help clear up some confusion the LFR on this model, IR 3245i does not have a rubber gear on the LFR that drives the the fixing film.
The film is driven by the LFR with the proper pressure applied.
There are other models that use a conductive rubber tire on the LFR that is used to apply a ground or a bias to the film, but not this model.

Have you checked both front alignment plates and the rear alignment plate to make sure they are centered on their bosses, mounted squarely and not bent?
These have been known to be off from factory, to be field adjusted and could possibly have just loosened up over time.
You might also check the way the door closes and the hook holder unit mounted on the door as well.

There have been cases reported where the rear screw that applies pressure between the fixing film and the pressure roller has become stripped.
This creates uneven pressure which then causes the film to track improperly until it tears and generates a E007 code.

Workaround =is to replace the stripped screw with a longer screw or replace the fuser assembly.
Also, do not overlook the screw hole in the metal making sure the threads are intact.
