    Toner refills

An open question, am thinking of sourcing toner and refilling for the IRC 3080i and IRA 2020i /2030i series.

Has anyone tried this approach and what was your experience?

    Even on other models perhaps?

    Thanks

LOL that something you had to clear up?

I was going to look into refilling OEM toner cartridges with sourced toner, not found a place yet....

Is the concensus that OEM Toner is superior, I have read the bumpf on Canon toner, but am interested in real life application

      Thanks

Don't know very much about Canon machines, but I think I can say that this isn't a good idea. It's asking for trouble!

              Re: Toner refills

re-filling hte toner is a bad idea, the carrier concept for the canon toners are based on iron fillaments that are mixed in with the toner, any re-filling will likely be from the waste toner which has a high chance that the carriers will have gone behond their optimal purpose and thus will not work corectly.

in short, its much more hassle than it is worth, but if your willing to put up with the headaches that is your business.

also as a point note re: IRC3080: the parts in the toner containers are not designed for prolnged use and may snap due to ware and tear if you go behond the usual time frame, this will be full of fun and enjoyment in having to manualy prise ou the cartirdges and then having to clean up the toner dump/overflow that occured.

                  Re: Toner refills

It sounds like a good idea. I had never thought about the mechanism failure potential though but I'm sure that you could inspect that before a refill and there is a seriously high demand for recycling as well as environmental issues that go along with it that would be in your favor nowadays. I don't know if I can give you a source for bulk powder here so I won't but toner for that model is probably sold by the 10kg bag from my parts supplier but the thing is that you would be forced to find your own exact source from the toner choices that are out there. The general theory with Canon copiers and toner matching was always that you match the toner based on the drum type as well as the copy speed and probably the rough manufacture date as well. Manufacturers do not change their toner chemistry all that often (from past experience) and you more than likely will find a match in the laser printer recharge toner selection by HP or Canon. That being said, you'd better have your own machine to test on because things do go wrong as has been clearly said by the previous posters. I probably don't need to mention it but just in case, don't use any toner that is for color equipment in your search.

Here's a picture that I took just for you, look carefully at this picture. both generic toners are said to be compatible with similar machines but for some reason, perhaps laziness, they don't completely list all of the machine models that they do fit. Plus to top it off, one cartridge looks quite different from the other. This example is power for your course in that as you can see perhaps new models had come along before the generic supplier could update his compatibility list and yet the same chemistry of toner fits the new models.

PS. I haven't recharged a thing in 20 years so take what I have said with some level of caution.
