where did u get this firmware from ??
never seen firmware listed on this model ??

      MAY WORK
Uninstall the printer and disconnect the USB cable from the back of the printer. Then restart the computer and turn the printer on. Then once the computer has booted back up to the desktop, plug the USB cable back in and let Windows detect the printer. Then it should install the drivers for the printer.

Then click on Start-------Settings--------Printers and Faxes----------Right-click on your printer icon and make sure the printer is set as default. Then scroll down to Properties and open the properties up. Click the Ports tab and make sure the USB virtual printer port is checked and the printer is listed beside it. Then click General tab and click Print a Test Page to see if the printer will print a test page

        Thank you for your reply.
I have uninstalled and re-install the driver, the PC detects and installs theusb devices but the printer never boots up.
I unplug the printer from the power and usb.
I wait a few minutes and plug the power plug without the usb.
As soon as the LCD lights up the message "DOWNLOAD STANBY" shows upand never goes away.
And then when I plug the USB cable to the printer and PC the message change,"DOWNLOAD CONNECTED" and it never goes away.......
and i found that firmware here.

Thank you, just let me know what i have to do.
I understand this is a 50-50 chance it will work, but, if i have to change the logic board or main board,
can anybody tell me which circuit board it is? It's the one in the right panel or the one on the lid wich it has the USB and the ethernet plug in.

                Poor grounding at outletfor printer

VOLTAGE SPIKES=Fast, short duration electrical transients

                Lightning strikes
                Power outages
                Tripped circuit breakers
                Short circuits
Power transitions in other large equipment on the same power line
Malfunctions caused by the power company
Electromagnetic pulses (EMP) with electromagnetic energy distributed typically up to the 100 kHz and 1 MHz frequency range.

                    Hello,
I have the same problem with my MF8180C it's possible to get "Step by step" instructions how to flash this device? I get the firmware mf8180_wlaa04-02 and Canon SST tool CSS SSTv 474Em_Setup but I don't know is this the right one and have no manual for this to see how to proceed.

                    Thanks in advance!

                      first try a factory reset

                      service mode
Press Press [MENU]; then, press [#] to start service mode.
                      Data Initialization Mode (CLEAR)

                      # CLEAR
Registration/settings of user data and service data are initialized with CLEAR ALL, and go back to factory defaults.

                      # Clear All
Since the TYPE setting of #CLEAR item goes back to STANDARD when #CLEAR ALL is executed, there is a need to change the TYPE setting to
conform to the communications standards of a specific country/region.

                            Hello teckat!
Thank you for "Service Manual MF8100", it's nice to have this.

I appreciate to helping my to bring Canon back in life. I need for some printing and more scanning, this is all for home use and after all this years still have original cartridge, last year put only new black cartridge, can say it's new device.

I will try you advice to "Factory Reset".

If I understand you correctly ... after power on when LCD shows "Download Standby" I press [MENU] + [#] + [OK] Enter?

Than I have connected laptop with USB cable, the Canon servis told my that I need only firmware, no Canon SST tool needed, only to connect to laptop, what I have done and than start to instal two driwers, but one failed Canon CFYSA, no idea what that is but doesn't work.

Can someone help me with this problem?
