Canon CLC 3220 Side Cover Problem

    Good Day

A new problem seems to have risen and this one is far worse..

The side cover of the printer seems to have a problem as the printer says the side cover is not closed showing the following error message

"Return the fixing Unit to its Original Position"

Even when the cover is fully closed it still says the same thing..

I took a look inside to see where the problem might be, e.t.c broken parts or something and i'm not 100% sure if what i notices could be the problem as it is just a guess based on what i saw..

I tool the cover out, and when i looked at the printer, i saw that it had 2 hook like things/pins on the left sides and one of them was way bent backwards, when i looked into the cover itself it had 2 metal places in which those pins/hooks should be in contact with or touching not sure, my guess was based from the marks it has on the metal thingies that they should be in contact when the cover is slid back in.. The question is "how" Could this be the problem or another one could be lying unnoticed Deep inside the printer..

I have also attached images of the printer and hopefully they will be able to give an idea on where it could have gone wrong..
My apologies for the poor quality as they were taken during the night from a mere mobile phone..

The First picture is the side panel, half open, the second the error on the printer screen, the third the hook thingies inside the screen, the fourth, the side panel fully out on the floor, and the fifth, the side panel/cover close up to where those hook thingies are supposed to touch, or so i think..

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

    NOTE:
If a piece of paper rips during jam removal, it can become wedged in duplex connector J222 at the rear frame of the machine. This paper can cause poor contact at J222 when the duplex drawer is closed. Inspect J222 carefully to make certain that no paper is present in the connector.

u need to look at the micro switches

remove the vertical unit above fix unit/ be careful with the upper left side sensor wire cable
these switches must close at the same time u push in fuser unit

Remove the upper left vent cover.// then follow >>>

also when that sensor is dirty it causes e004

Clean the sensor PS5, also check the switches for continuity using your volt/ohm meter, replace one or both if necessary and adjust the leaf spring actuators so that switches msw5 and msw6 deactuate BEFORE the fixing feeding connector breaks contact when the drawer is pulled out. The switches should actuate and deactuate pretty close to the same time.

also remove the Manual tray unit/right side> look at connector inside and on Manual unit>
see if they are bent or cracked

Is there any paper stuck in the contacts on top of the fuser both on the fuser side and the machine? Is that black connector cracked at all. They're spring loaded so when you close the tray it pushes the contacts together. Worth a shot I've only got two of these and have never had non roller/drum/fuser calls.

I have managed to get the printer working.. Took me a long while but i managed to get it working..

The another problem hit in.. The side cover problem is sorted but the printing quality then got poor.. I thought it was the toner.. i bought a new set of toner cartridges for the printer but nothing changed..

So i made made a copy and then scanned a newspaper copy to show you how it looks..

        Any ideas?

is light issue on also on network prints ??

did u remove the ITB in your repair process ?

leave small RIGHT SIDE cover off to view ITB >run a PG 10 TEST PRINT -- see if image is solid on ITB ?

Check the lift handle for the ITB Unit> make sure it cams up on both sides (you need to look inside)

what did u do to get printer up ????????????

Problem is, im not a printer technician.. Just an end user and all these gadgets to test i dont have..

I had to read the whole printer service manual in order to understand where the last problem was and finally found it and fixed it..

The only parts that i opened where in the side cover and the problem was with the connection switches that connects the side cover to the printer itself.. one was broken so i took it off and joined it together and put it back..

              ===================

read the service manual on how to print out a PG 10 TEST PRINT
pg10.JPGdon't think manual shows this image-
to access a print--enter service mode--COPIER>TEST<PG>under TYPE input 10 select OK and print out> make sure to return setting back to 0 when finished-

u can remove this small cover(open front door>slide out manual feed as shown (remove one screw #1 on #2 cover) close door>slide manual unit back in > to view images on ITB before they are transferred to paper
              itb cover.JPG

              inspect this also--------
slide out the fuser unit & look at external secondary transfer roller> make sure it is in place (spring loaded tension on both sides) should rotate easily and have a slight release when pushed down on both ends

Re: Canon CLC 3220 Side Cover Problem

I tried that and i do not see anything out of place..

I thought it was the toner cartridges as they were low so i ordered a new set .. all four of them, just installed them, the startup page that prints when the printer is switched on prints out fine, but the PG 10 Test page is faded so much and the network prints don't work out well..

When i print a test page.. Sometimes it shows up okay, sometimes it doesn't..

                Any ideas?

problem is u need to troubleshoot the issue by elimination / u are not trained to do this

many issues can cause intermittent CQ issues
                  1-OLD DRUMS
                  2-DOOR BIAS CONTACTS/in picture below

3-ITB bed green handle( not lifting/locking bed to correct position
4-Is image faded on ITB before exit
                  5-are copies of glass light
6-have u run Auto gradation procedure
                  7-u have a Fiery connected or a Multi-Pdl Kit installed ?
8-Check the image on all the drums before it's placed on ITB SHEET( Do a panic stop during printing)
9- If the image is good on the drum, check transfer assembly
10- If the image is light on the drum and ITB belt, the dc controller is possibly at fault and needs to be replaced.
                  11-are all colors light
12-If all Prints, Copies and Test Prints are very light / weak. And The image on the ITB is good.> Check the HVT 3 connections to the Secondary unit.
13-Make sure the actuator for the pattern reader unit is installed correctly inside the front door of the copier and that it is not broken.

Re: Canon CLC 3220 Side Cover Problem

I am having the same problems as the original poster. I have an IRC2620 and the error keeps coming up: "Return the fixing Unit to its Original Position". Unfortunately I do not have a service manual so I cannot troubleshoot. If I apply pressure to the top left-hand corner of the side door, the error goes away, but that is tedious if I'm wanting to do a lot of printing. Any suggestions?
