    Canon IRC 3080Ci , Waste toner error

    I am new to these machines. I havent worked on cannon MFP's previous to this (so please excuse my limited knowledge on this type of machine, ). I replaced the black toner on one of these machines today. when i dropped down the front cover it was quite dirty inside, so I gave the internals a clean. I removed the waste toner box and cleaned this too. Nothing major just a quick wipe of a cloth. When I closed up the covers the machine keeps asking to refit the waste toner box. I have tried fitting a brand new waste toner box but it still wont clear the message. I hope I am missing somthing obvious.

      The machine has the detection system for the waste toner case. This detection is executed by the waste toner case sensor (P11) prepared at the side of the waste toner sensor.
      By monitoring PS11 at the time of closing the front cover, the machine judges whether the toner case is mounted on the main body or not.


      The sensor PS11 is located at the auger opening that might have toner dust on it or is malfunctioning. Verify the position of the PS11 and the auger open close shutter and replace the PS11 consequently.

      There is a spring loaded sleeve with a flag around the waste toner auger. When the bottle is present it will push the sleeve thereby unblocking PS11.
      When PS11 fails or is dirty, the message to insert the waste toner bottle will be displayed.
      To clean or replace PS11 the black hopper drive assembly must be removed, the procedure for removing the hopper drive assemblies can be found on page 10-21 of the service manual.

      TIP> don't remove Hopper> use a Straw to blow in and clean sensor




      Below is a picture of PS11 and the flag on the spring loaded sleeve.

          Just give ps11 a tiny lil shot of canned air. Do not giver hell in there cause you'll create more problems than it solves. Chances are you're going to run into an e990 ecode soon enough if you're already getting the insert waste toner message.

              Many thanks guys for the prompt response and advice. I will take a look at that sensor in the morning.
