hello guys, I have canon Ir adv C5051 it happens that the machines just stop working I mean everyone in the network cannot print. I went and do troubleshooting check the IP address and ping it no response, try at web browser still no response. check network cable connections look fine. disconnect the copier network cable and plug to the printer working fine so network connection to that cable is good. try to switch the network cable of the printer and the copier still copier doesn't work. no errors on the copier. check IP address, gateway and subnet all fine and correct. IP was set as default to DHCP. and try to set IP to static and cycle the power still not help. delete IP and change it into different IP and cycle the power still no help. make the IP into 0.0.0.0 and set to DHCP and cycle the power machine doesn't grab any IP still the same 0.0.0.0. but when I unplug the network cable to the machine, the machine show on the screen 'check network connection" and when I plug it back it gone. so it means the machine is detecting the network. now any one have this kind of issues here? and updating the firmware of the machine you think will fix the problem? thanks....

Re: Canon IR ADV C5051 Network Problem
Devices Falling off the Network Problem :
A device will appear to fall off the network occasionally for no apparent reason. The device may be pinged, but the machine will not print, nor will ancillary like Command Workstation or RUI work depending on the model in question. You may have reloaded system software to get everything up and running. The equipment works for a time and subsequently drops off the network again.
Solution :
The most common reason for this issue has always been a duplicate IP address within the same network. Once this has been completely ruled out, these other alternatives could be considered:In Network environments where a Cisco Switch is involved, one approach could be to set the PortFast feature on a Cisco switch. This has the property of negating the effects caused on IPX/SPX and AppleTalk protocols regarding the Spanning Tree Protocol. There have not been any observations so far of the Spanning Tree Protocol causing a problem on TCP/IP networks.
There have been a few reported incidents where a device appears to fall off a TCP/IP network and is not related to the Spanning Tree Protocol although the symptoms of the problem appear to be the same. In this case, you may isolate your device from the switch or router by adding a small inexpensive hub with no intelligence between the device and switch. Alternatively, you can try locking the switch port and the Canon device at the same network speed. This can eliminate any auto-negotiation issues. The reported incidents of this type of problem have been extremely low, but the workaround seems to be effective.
try this
Press Additional Functions> System Settings> Network Settings> Ethernet Driver Settings> Auto Detect> OFF. Reboot the Canon device. This stops the Canon device from trying to negotiate the Ethernet Settings for communicating with the network.**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.** -
Re: Canon IR ADV C5051 Network Problem
Thanks teckat ill check with that tomorrow. so you mean updating the firmware has low percentage to fix the issue? and i think i need to try connecting the copier directly to the laptop to see if it will works. and yah they are using CISCO on their network and the machine was directly plug unto that cisco switch.Comment

Re: Canon IR ADV C5051 Network Problem
I had a similar problem with an HP Laser Jet 2050dn; It was intermittently losing its network connection and dropping its I.P.Address, I solved the problem by reinstalling with latest driver and software both downloaded from hp website. The machine is now working well, at least for the past 3weeks so far. May be in your case you could start with latest driver from canonusa , see what happens and move forward to other possible solutions. You could also try to install the driver directly on to the individual client computers rather than the server and see what happens.
The communication at the IP level is independant of the printer driver. Isn't it ?

Re: Canon IR ADV C5051 Network Problem
Of course you must be able to ping the machine first to test its connectivity and configuration before you even think of loading the drivers. It's the starting point.Comment

This man's right. Now that you can flash via CDS there's no excuse for tech's not taking the time to flash it. Set it to flash at midnight and email you every step of the way.Comment

Re: Canon IR ADV C5051 Network Problem
I went to the machine today and still no joy. what I do is I hook my laptop to the copier using the crossover network cable configure the IP and try to ping from my laptop still not working (unreachable), try pinging from the machine still nothing (no response from the host) of course I cycle the power everytime I make changes in the machine. I called canon tech support and they try to help me fix it but still nothing happen so we end up of deciding to replace the main controller board. and we are going to order that board for now. thanks guys for the help. ill post anything happen in the next time we meet that machine...lol

Re: Canon IR ADV C5051 Network Problem
did u reload or update the printer firmware ===
Unable To Ping To The Machine Via Crossover Cable
First, put the machine in Download Mode - power off>Hold down (# 2&8 keys)>now power on while holding both keys, now see if you can ping the Fixed IP address-- 172.16.1.100
If so the Network Card is fine and the System software is the issue.
If you still cannot ping the Fixed IP in Download Mode (2&8), the Network Card is bad and needs to be replaced.
