    [Misc] toner contamination

Ir 5570, Toner (fresh, not grey),building up on front of trans /sep, eventually fills front of tray 1,tried hopper/bottle holder, rebuilt developer station. Noticed band of contamination on Front Bottom of Pre-trans charger(not on wire area). Used drum was installed a month before problem started.Could a bad drum cause this problem. Thanks RAN

I wonder if the pretrans it at fault. Sounds like it is dropping off there. Just a thought as well, I wonder if there is a charge developing on the bottom of the pretrans. Oh I bet I know what it is. The pretrans roller is not turning. Here is what happens: the advance lever mechanism is in a bind. If you actuate it by hand and then see if it will release, you will find that it does not return back. In other words I dont think it is going up and down on the cam. If you loosen the screw that holds(the pretrans assy) it in place slightly you will see it release and work just fine.
Of course not being in front of the machine this is just a guess, but take a look and see.

Oh my goodness dont replace the drum, I am sure the toner is just dropping cause it isnt going into the cavity in the pretrans. also if the cam and actuator are ok then the pretrans cleaning blade could be tweeked and not scraping evenly.

What count is the m/c showing? the cleaning unit can start to leak after a million+ prints/copies. I usually replace the process unit (exc drum) this is quite cheap & comes complete with the cleaning unit.
