Canon iR3035 / Windows XP - direct scan to computer VIA SMB

    Hello All !

I've created a folder on a single host computer, with an address book entry on the Canon.

The Address Book is an SMB share, mapped to the computer. The folder on the computer has the default rights, plus a new user created on it (Homegroup style auth). I set this up on at the beginning of the month - And it worked just fine.

Return 3 weeks later - And it's not working. The scans are just going into oblivion.

I have gone into the address book, and purposefully ruined the SMB path: Generates an error. Enter incorrect password. Generates an error. Remapped the folder, same issue - no error generated.

On the PC : Checked folder shares in computer management, folder is still shared with the user I created locally setup to have full access, and even owner access. Log into the computer AS the user account created for the scanner, and it can read and write into that folder. Log in to the computer across the network from another computer - The folder is visible, and I can write to it. I have the folder setup in the root of C:, and a shortcut to the user desktop to open it up.

Print operations work fine . Scanning DID work, and no changes appear to have to have been made. The machine does NOT have automatic updates, and does not have it's internal firewall turned on.

    Any suggestions ?

This printer was moved from another environment where it did, in fact, work for all machines connected to it. The new environment is only a single computer, on a flat network. Linksys router giving DHCP (I have also statically assigned an IP Address to both the desktop and the Canon, no effect)

Again, in the logs the scan job doesn't present an error. Oh, and after a 2 minute wait, the copier will finally spit out an "Undeliverable" style page.

    Data:

    Canon iR3035
    Driver: iR3035/iR3045 UFR II
    Computer: WinXP SP3

    TX REPORT:
    TX/RX INCOMPLETE -----
    Transaction OK -----
Error \\*client-name* Sharon (Address book entry)

Client machine CAN print / Browse / ping
Copier CAN copy / ping gateway / ping client / Fax
Copier CAN NOT scan document to SMB share on PC, where it was able to only a few weeks earlier.

Thank you, and have a great day !

Try using the IP address of Sharon's PC in the SMB path instead of the name.

I've seen "Browser Elections" play all kinds of games with hostnames.

You do not have to fully turn OFF the Windows Firewall, instead place a check-mark next to File & Printer Sharing under the Exception List.

      turn off Simple File Sharing

KenB: Thanks for that advice, I forgot to include:

I swapped out the IP Address for the hostname in the event there was a DNS issue somewhere. No go - same results.

teckat: Thank you for the tips, I will try these steps tomorrow.

Thanks to both you guys !
