The actuator for the fixing inlet sensor PS51 can break or become sluggish and cause an error code E001. The actuator for PS51 can be viewed on figure 320, item 140 of the parts catalog. If the actuator appears to be worn or slow to return, replace the actuator (FC5-5145-000) and the return spring (FU5-2175-000).

E001 There is an abnormal rise in temperature. After correcting the fault, be sure to reset the error.
      (COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>ERR)
0001 There is an error or an open circuit in the
main thermistor, shutter thermistor, or sub
      thermistor.
      - Check the connector of each thermistor
for any fault in connection and wiring.
      - Replace the thermistor in question.
      - Replace the DC controller PCB.
0002 The reading of the main thermistor, shutter
thermistor, or sub thermistor is 230 deg C
      or higher for 2 sec.
      - Replace the thermistor in question.
      - Replace the DC controller PCB.
0003 The reading is not 150 deg C or higher or
210 deg C or lower within 30 sec.
      - Turn off and then back on the power.
0010 The power has been turned off and then
back on without resetting the error.
      - Reset the error.
      (COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>ERR)

This is the service manual info for your code. You may also want to check the thermistors as well as the upper fuser roller for wear. If either have been worn to the point where you can see serious deterioration then toss them. You can also monitor them while doing a long run of copies by entering service mode and displaying the analogue temperature of these sensors to see if either is sporadic. I also see a lot of broken fuser gears with this series of copiers so check both of them for broken or missing teeth. Also check to see if that tiny little stepper motor is able to move the shutter assembly easily, I've seen problems with this as well and it is related to the fixing temperature problems that occur in these machines.
