    iR2018 Running contiously

    High to all,
    Canon Ir 2018, powers on well, but runs continuously as though failing to detect toner. No error code displayed. No jam code or message displayed. Initializing continuously. Machine is 400kms away from my station. I am yet to reach it, probably over this week end. Share your experience with us, or say something.

    Fixing Temperature
    adjusted through Additional Functions > Adjustment / Cleaning > Special Mode P. Special Mode P adjustments should be performed according to the following chart which is model specific:

    imageRUNNER (2018 / 22018i)



    Try flashing the machine.
    Power on with the 2 key held down (not 2 and 8, just the 2 key) this should cause the machine to go in to download status, display "DOWNLOAD CONNECTED". Downloads are performed via USB connection, not network. Machine must be connected via USB prior to entering download mode.


    If all the above is tried and still not able to recover machine, the IP PCB may be damaged or ROM is damaged.
    Try re-seating ROM if you haven't already. Clean contacts with a dry eraser before re-seating.

    The none 'I' model has only one DDR module.
    This model can experience issues from the one DDR installed.


    A possible solution for this issue would be to replace the DDR module.


    If this is an "i" model try re-seating the USB extension located top left of the IP pcb as well. Only the "i" models will have this USB extension and you should see it glowing when machine is powered on.

        As stupid as it may seem - get a new toner with you and replace it.

        I had a similar case. Machine was Ready but rollers keep rotating.

        Maybe it helps.

          In some cases, such a fault can be caused by a customer trying some ON/OFF manouvre to make more copies when the 'ADD TONER' alarm has flashed.

              Agreed....replace the toner with new oem ctg. If that doesn't work, try replacing the dv unit. They fail on this model with as little as 40k copies sometimes.

                hi ...replace a new toner cart....if it is keep running continuosly adjust the ANT on the HVT board

                  Of late the above phenomenon could be caused by a defective HVT board.I have personally experienced this and after replacing the HVT board the problem was solved.

                      Hi to all, This is an update: With a counter reading of 347k, I found the machine's Developing unit was really in bad shape. The customer had been using non-OEM toner for quite sometime, when she started experiencing the problem above, she tried to switch back to the OEM toner but this could not resolve the problem. Toner had also splashed all over inside the machine. The fuser film, also a non OEM, had some coatings on it peeled off(around mid point)...Don't know if this would affect the 'target temperature' values.

                      What I did: After blowing the machine off dust and soiled toner, I replaced the developing unit with a known good working one, which I had initially thoroughly cleaned of any toner, so it was 'as good as new'. I replaced also the Fuser film. Then entering the machine's service mode, did the 'Developing assembly idle rotation mode'. After this idling process was successfully completed, I inserted in a new tube(cartridge) of OEM toner.
                      Power cycled the machine, and successfully made many copies.
                      Conclusion: I think the above problem was really caused by non OEM Toner. Thanks for all your support.

                        Thought that replacing the DV unit would be the fix...those units fail early in that model, really doubt generic toner was the cause though...just the same, glad your back up and running.
