    very light ouput both print and copy

    Hi All,

    Any ideas what to check with this problem. The output of IR2018n both print and copy is very light at default settings. I could get better results if the density is set at darkest but still noticeable of some unreadable text/images if it copies some carbon forms like bank receipts etc...

    Was wondering if the problem is the laser unit. Any cleaning procedure & tips?

    condensation on the dust-proof glass is likely to cause poor image density
    condensation on the contact sensor of the reader unit or on the copy-board glass can cause light images
    <Reader>
    - Check whether the optical system (contact sensor/white panel/copy-board glass) i
    - Check whether the contact sensor unit moves smoothly.
    - Check whether the contact sensor is not flickering.
    - Check whether the optical system is free from dew condensation.
    <Process>
    - Check whether the drum unit and toner bottle are installed securely.
    - Check drum
    <Transfer>
    - Check the transfer roller is free from deformation.

      Is it safe to use denatured alcohol and tissue paper to clean those lenses/glasses?

      Do you have images of those mentioned above you wanna post just like the mouse pic? hehehe

      Thanks in advance.

          I am not a trained copier technician just a small biz owner trying to fix my own machine. Technicians denied coming here (with endless reasons to postpone like typhoons, floods, boils, his cat is sick, etc...) as my location is very remote (in a farm with mice) so I have to fix my own machine.

          To answer your question yes I do not know the function of my machine, but could fix it with guidance from the internet or if someone is kind enough to help.

              Re: very light ouput both print and copy

              Luckily I found a topic(there's no details though how to clean the laser unit) , a similar problem and tried opening the top plastic cover and cleaned the laser unit using air blower, denatured alcohol and a lint-free cloth and yeah I could print/copy at default density settings without a problem. Though I found the print a bit lighter than 4 years ago when the machine is newer, but its way better before the cleanup.

              It's my first time to see the inside of the laser unit, and I could see it's a smaller, simpler version of a laser marking machine used in semiconductor manufacturing. (I used to work in a semiconductor company)

              Thanks for your help, I did read the guide and found out that there's this warning that laser unit is not designed for servicing in the field. Risk of laser light and misalignment I guess. I have read some cleaning procedures of rollers, document glass and others which would be very helpful in maintaining the machine.

              Thanks again.
