    iPF9400/8400

Not sure how many of you guys service wide format machines - take this for what it's worth.

Just had a trainer down from Canon Canada to our dealership to train us all iPF models, including the new 8400 (similar to the 9400). Encountered an issue after taking the whole thing apart for training and then re-assembling. We discovered there is an issue with the 8400 where a fuse will blow intermittently, dropping the signal to some of the carriage sensors.

We had an error message saying to close the carriage cover as if we were replacing a head. There is a specific lot # on some of the MC boards that have some manufacturing defects. If you get this error or a "close top cover" error then you could be in trouble. Of course, this will likely be under warranty by the time it happens, or you were lucky enough to not get one of those few machines that have the bad MC.

This has NOT been formally announced by Canon yet as an issue, at least not in Canada for the 8400. The trainer was talking to the guys in Japan who told him they were still seeing what machines are affected but the announcement is about to be put out for the 9400 since they know this is happening on these. Apparently we are the first in Canada to report this issue on the 8400.

Try not to pull too many hairs out with this one.

Been there!!!!!!!!!.....Been servicing Canon Wide Format for years......and i hate them!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, close cover errors,multi-sensor errors, etc. For machines that only have a main con, power supply and sub boards for carriage n stuff, they cause alot of headaches. Have fun
