    IR C3380 Toner Hopper Problems

Does anyone know why the toner cartridges won't turn properly when installing. I primarily see this on the black, when the toner cartridge latch is turned the gears will stick and skip. Seems like it may be a problem with the plastic toner frame. Does anyone have a good fix for this besides swapping the entire unit?
    Thanks

The gears are attached to a flimsy metal frame. I usually reposition the frame slightly, so the gears mesh properly.

There was a mod to the gear assemblies...mainly because of the terrible design, the toner used to leak down onto the sensors directly beneath it. If the customer isn't careful installing they make a mess and you start getting e025 codes. I've had a few bottles where the gear simply would not mesh properly until I cranked it a few times, at which point I was sure I had broken it but it worked.

      Worst case, replace the bottle.

Are you using genuine Caon toner? the non OEM toners have cheap flimsy gears.

This problem had me stumped for a while also, but if you take the Toner cover off there is a metal plate under the Black unit which has a hole .....and there should be a self tapper screw into the plastic frame - had 4 machines over the last couple of years with the same problem and I still don't know if there was supposed to be a screw there in the first place but it stops the frame from twisting and the gears mesh ok.
