Canon IR C5051Touch Screen not responding

    Hi all,

I have a Canon IR C5051 that the touch screen is not responding to touch.

I can't get error codes, because I can not get past the Service Mode Initial Screen.

I had read a note somewhere that you could disconnect and re-connect the cable to the screen and this might fix the issue, also that maybe resetting the screen might fix the issue.

I have not been able to find any info no doing either of these 2 tasks.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Touch Screen Is Not Responding
Before replacing any control panel components, make sure there are no foreign object or particles wedged under the Control panel face plate surrounding the LCD.

Sometimes dirt can buildup between the touch panel and the control panel cover. This buildup over time causes downward pressure to the touch panel and it stops responding.
Going around the entire perimeter of the screen, take a business card or other firm type of media and slide it between the touch panel and the control panel cover.

      Hi Tekcat,

      Thanks for the reply.

I was actually able to remove the control panel cover and ensure that there was nothing under it, other than the data plate and label sheet.

I had read that it was possible to remove and re-connect the cable or reset the panel.

Do you know how I can do that?

I appreciate any and all help.

Ok so got this figured out.

To disconnect the cable from the control panel, you have to slide the panel to the front of the machine until it stops,

        Remove cover behind panel,

Remove 2 Phillips screws that hold bracket assembly in place.

Remove bracket and carefully slide panel the rest of the way off copier top.

Turn panel over and remove screw in center of panel bottom, (this will allow you to remove the cover that this screw holds down.

Once cover is removed, carefully disconnect cable from control panel, wait about 1 minute, reconnect cable.

        Reassembly is reverse of disassembly.

        *****KEY NOTE*******
Ensure that your turn off main power switch to copier and unplug from wall outlet.

DO NOT Disconnect cable from panel with power still on!!!

After re-assembling control panel and re-installing back on copier, powered copier back on, waited for all startup functions to complete.

Touch panel is now working again.

I have still ordered the parts for the screen, just to be on the safe side.

You should always turn off and unplug the copier when taking the machine apart...copier 101

This might be a little late for a response but the problem is more than likely the digitizer screen, it's that thin screen that excepts the touch signals from your finger when you touch a selection. They are fairly unreliable, I've replaced about a half dozen in 3 years and none of them looked defective. They are cheap, just under $40 from a second source parts supplier. it has a 4 pin ribbon cable that attaches it to the display board. Hey I could be wrong, but it's a cheap guess and the first part that I would replace after a tear down and wire wiggle attempt fails to solve it.

            Good luck ,

            Ron.

Try to switch On the machine while keeping the front cover open.
Once the machine is boot up and indicating to close the cover follow the instruction.
              machine touch screen will respond.
Check the error code history in service mode.
it will show error code E733-0001 and E733-0002.

If this is the case replace the SLIDE VOLUMME SENSOR UNIT in MP PICK UP MOUNT ASSEMBLY(multeefeed assembly width guide VR) FH7-7600-010)

I seen this plenty times before with a few of the advanced models. Our approach was reloading firmware. Certain drivers get corrupted and cause certain glitches. If the problem come back and replacing the parts don't resolved your issue. Try reloading firmware.

I'm starting to have the same issue now with my iR adv C2225i:

Sometimes after power up, neither touch screen nor Keys are working, except the power safe button (which always works as expected, but does not bring back touch or other keys).

As it sometime works and sometimes doesn't, I first suspected the cable, so I opened the control panel and disconnected the HDMI and power connector and reconnected it. Afterwards, touch worked 1 out of 3 power cycles, so this didn't solve the issue.

The error log didn't show any recent entries.

Funny enough, the control panel seems to come up more reliable, when I don't press/touch anything until the device fully started, including getting a network adress.

So maybe this is indeed not a cable/connection issue, but a firmware/driver issue, so I'd like to try the Reload the Firmware suggested in the previous post.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the download on the Canon page. Can anyone give me a hint on where to find the firmware and potential tools I need to install it?

Or any additional ideas or Selftests I can try or Service/Engineer mode pages, ... to further diagnose and pinpoint the underlying issue?

Thanks a lot for the help.and best regards!
