    Canon IR3245 Finisher issue

    Hey all,

I have a Canon IR 3245 copier with an issue with the finisher.

It has the S1 finisher and I am getting an with the trays.

The error code is 542-8005 Which says the following:
    **************
-The option stack tray has been driven, but the option stack tray

encoder clock signal is not detected twice or more within 300 msec.
    ********************

I have had another copier tech (with over 25 years experience on canons) check it out also and he is at a loss as to what can be causing it.

I have already replaced the Finisher PCB -which we thought originally was the culprit.

Any other ideas as to what we can check. (I am pretty sure he checked voltages, but don't have those numbers from him yet).

    Thanks in advance.

    You can check this.

E542-8005 happens when tray has approximately 100 sheets in it. Finisher controller was replaced with no change.

    Solution :
Found optional tray was not installed correctly. Tray was not level, at front of machine tray was off by two teeth in gear. Removed and reinstalled to correct issue.

    Good luck.

      Thanks for the Idea Screwtape,

I'll check that later when I get a chance to go to that location.

          Hey Screwtape,

It appears that the tray is correctly in place, but it does seem like the bottom tray is past the upper limit.

How can I take it off and re-position it?

          Thanks in advance.

So after having dis-assembled and re-assembled the tray mechanism 3 times and still having the problem (after about 2 -3 print jobs)

It appears that the tray position sensor at the top of the finisher is faulty, it is not telling the tray to re-position itself after print jobs and after a couple jobs the motor will turn but the tray is at the top and can't go any further.

At least I am hoping this is the case.

Replace the wiring harness to the tray. It flexs and breaks inside. Have changed a few

                Re: Canon IR3245 Finisher issue

OK So swapped the sensors out and still have the issue.

Although I think I have it narrowed down to the lower tray on the finisher as being the culprit. It appears it raises up and runs into the bottom of the top tray, then it won't reset back down, when trying to print to copier, thereby causing the finisher to error out.

Other than changing the harness, is there anything else I could check to see what might be causing this to happen??

I don't have the harness onhand and will have to order it, but I would like to figure out another fix (if possible) before ordering more parts.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I agree with Canuck, had 1 customer with 2 machines both had optional 2nd tray fitted and had to replace looms on a regular basis.

                    Ok thanks all,

What is the possibility of it being the driver board on the bottom of the tray??

                        Hey Canuck,

Do you have the PN for the new harness??

I am not sure if they can even get it now.

I was told it might have to be ordered from Canon in Japan.

                        Thanks in advance.

                            Well Canuck,

It looks like you will be getting a beer!!

Installed the driver board and still have same issue.

                            Not worrying on this anymore.

They are replacing it with another unit!!

Guess I will never find out what the real culprit was (although I am leaning towards the harness now)

I would have replaced it already, but the tech I work with in this area swore up and down that it could not be the harness, soooooo!!!

                            LOL
