I have read about HDD cloning but i've never tried it. That could be used for any HDD. But, if you want to instal an HDD using the canon software "Service suppoert tool", you've to use a canon HDD : FK2-9250-000.

Everything above the ir2200 uses encrypted drives so it requires specific drives in order to operate. FK2-9250-000. You're going to need SST as you need to run an hdformat on it in order to rebuild the partitions correctly.
You can clone these drives without issues, the 22XX series, 52XX , and so on wont clone, as the previous poster said...due to encryption.
You can buy the HDD cloners for about 200 notes, pays for itslef after cloning one HDD.
Of course to clone an HDD the original (Gen) must be clean of any data, and afterwards the CA must be cleared.
you can also look around the internet (ebay, amazon and so on) for an HDD of the same model, or maybe one of the other forum users have one to sell you depending on where you live and use SST to load the new firmware. you have good parts suppliers there in the US
