Canon lbp 5960 13 paper jam/test print, no connectivity to printer

Everytime we run a test page - the printer throws a 13 jam with the page starting to exit the fuser. The printer also will no longer connect to a computer through the network or USB although in the setup menu i can see it has the correct IP information. I have had a strange week of printers repairs and am thinking this may be a possible DC Controller Board but wanted to verify with someone that may know this model a little better or perhaps has had experience with this oddity. have you tried to update the machines firmware? that will do kind of a full reset to the DC and clear any doubts and be cheaper than replacing
