Using the Apple OS 10.9 Maverick with a canon irc3480i the ufr or ps driver just puts the printer software into a pause mode and will not print any ideas ????

Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks Print Issues

After upgrading to Mac OS 10.9 users are no longer able to print to the Canon device. The Mac gets various errors 'Cannot get the device information', 'Connected printer is not supported' or 'Cannot communicate with printer'



Solution :

When users install the Mac OS 10.9 compatible printer driver to Mavericks, which already has an old version of driver installed, the printers list dialog shows two drivers for the same device when creating the printer.

Following is an example.
Canon imageRUNNER Advance C5051 <- Mavericks-compatible driver
Canon imageRUNNER Advance C5051 UFRII <- old version driver


In this situation when users select the old version driver name to create a printer, they cannot print with the created printer.

There are two workarounds for this issue:


1. In the above case, users should select 'Canon imageRUNNER Advance C5051' which does not include the PDL in the driver name to create the printer and it should print as expected.

2. The users will need to completely uninstall the old Canon PDL printer drivers from the Mac OS before installing the Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks compatible drivers. Once this is done, when adding the printer there will only be one driver listing for the specific model device to select.
