The imagePRESS Q1 Server is not Communicating With the imagePRESS C1

        Problem :
The imagePRESS Q1 Server is not communicating with the imagePRESS C1. "Please wait a moment" is displayed on the printer and the Q1 never connects to the copier.

        Try this setting procedure
1-The value of IMG-CON has been set to 0 and back to 3.
2-The video cables were reseated and MMI has been cleared.

It was noticed that the green LED on the video card of the Q1 controller was not turning on.
The green LED should turn on shortly after the Q1 starts booting.
The green LED should turn on, even if the video cables are not connected.

        Solution :
In this case, re-seating the video card in the imagePRESS Q1 Controller resolved the issue.

        Work note:

Do not solely rely on the green led on the video card.

Although the Video Board in the Fiery could be the potential problem, before replacing a video card you should always try re-seating all cables and boards in the Fiery including the Open Interface PCB in the copier.

Try re-loading software on the Fiery and setting IMG-CON to 0 and back to 3 to reintroduce the Fiery to the copier. Try replacing the video cables, cross over cable and the open interface pcb.

I am working on trying what you suggested, I have a question though. I looked on the Printers and Faxes menu of the Fiery OS and I noticed that there are only 3 "printers" whose names are "print", "hold", and "direct". My question... shouldnt the Imagepress C1 be listed there??

also there is a blue line on top of the windows that I assume is the status of the Fiery since on the right side it says ImagePRESS Server, but it is always on the status "Starting..... Please Wait" and never changes...

Also the Ethernet port of the fiery has an IP address of 10.255.255.1 and my copier has an IP of 192.168.1.89 I tried changing the copiers IP to see if that was the problem, I was able to communicate with the copier through the internet, but I have not added the printer to the fiery since I dont want to change anything before asking if it is relevant.

Also the video cable has the green light, the crossover cable works fine since I was able to access the copier "website" through the OS of the fiery.

print , hold and direct are the three queues that are installed when you load the software onto the unit....do not delete them.

has anything changed on your copier?

It seems like the Fiery and copier are not talking and that your image controller setting in service mode is not set correctly.

nothing was changed on the copier. The day before it stopped working, the copier was printing normally. There are some employees that work on the copier on a daily basis but they told me that they didnt change anything on the computer or the copier.

                Yes Manuel,

                So they told you!!

BUT have you actually went and verified the settings are correct??

Just because an EU says they didn't do anything does not mean that they didn't!!

What we think of as them changing or modifying something may not be the same to them.

I would go and verify all settings on both the copier, fiery Q1 & Computer all are correct.

You should not be able to see your copier IP scheme when it is setup to connect to a Fiery. Also the copier and Fiery should have a similar IP scheme so that they can communicate.
                  Fiery - 10.255.255.1
                  Copier - 10.255.255.2

changing it manually will not help. You need to get into service mode and change back the IMG-CNT setting to a 3 and cycle the power.

Installing System Software and User Software on the ColorPASS GX100 or imagePRESS Server Q1

                    Question :
How do you install System Software and User Software on the ColorPASS GX100 or imagePRESS Server Q1?

                    What is the proper procedure?

                    Answer :
There are 2 DVDs that are required:

                    1. System Software DVD - Contains the Windows XPe operating system and the Fiery system software.

                    2. User Software DVD - Contains the Fiery user software.

                    IMPORTANT -
Be sure to back up all settings and data (Configuration Page, Logs, Jobs, Fonts, Profiles, etc) before reinstalling the system software. All data will be deleted.

TIME CONSIDERATIONS - The system software installation takes approximately one hour (not including the time required to configure Setup).

Summary of Steps to Install the System Software:

                    1. Back up all settings and data as necessary (print a Configuration Page, print the Job Log, archive jobs, etc).

                    2. Remove all USB devices and dongles (if any) that may be connected to any of the controller's USB ports (except for keyboard, mouse, or external DVD drive, if present).

                    3. Insert the System Software DVD into the DVD drive and boot off the System Software DVD (ex. insert the DVD and select Reboot System from the Shutdown Menu).

                    4. When the 'All data will be deleted. Continue?' message appears, select Yes.

                    5. The installation process begins immediately.

                    6. At the 'Select Language' screen, select the desired language.

                    7. Wait as various messages are displayed describing the installation process. Do NOT hit any buttons during this process. This will take approximately 7 minutes.

                    8. The message 'Installation completed. Press OK to continue' will display. Select OK.

                    9. At the message 'Please remove System Software media and press OK', remove the disk and select OK.

                    10. The controller reboots and the installation process continues. Wait as various messages are displayed describing the installation process. Do NOT hit any buttons during this process. This will take approximately 14 minutes.

                    11. At the message 'Please insert User Software to continue', insert the User Software DVD into the DVD drive and close the drive drawer. User Software installs automatically after the drive drawer is closed.

                    * The entire contents of the User Software DVD are copied to a shared folder on the controller's Hard Drive (e:\efi\user_sw) and the User Software is installed on the controller. Later, users can access this shared folder over the network to obtain the User Software and install it on their own client computers.

                    12. The message 'Copying user software to a network shared folder' displays, followed by other messages. Do NOT hit any buttons during this process. This will take approximately 45 minutes.

                    13. At the message 'User Software installation complete. Remove media. System will reboot', remove the User Software DVD and close the drawer within 30 seconds. Take care not to allow the drawer to close on and possibly damage the DVD.

                    14. The system reboots automatically several more times. Do NOT hit any buttons during this process. This will take approximately 2 minutes. Wait for the controller to finally boot to idle.

                    15. Install any desired User Documentation from the User Documentation CD (optional).

                    16. Once the Fiery is connected to the network (with Internet access), remember to check the System Updates feature for any required software patches or updates that may be available for the controller. See Related Article 61969 for more information.

IMPORTANT - All updates to the system software (Windows OS and Fiery System Software) which may be available for the controller and installed from any source (via the System Updates feature, provided on CD, or downloaded by the customer) are deleted when you reinstall the system software. These updates must be reinstalled again after the system software is reinstalled.

                    17. Reconnect any USB devices or dongles that were previously removed.

                    18. Configure Setup on the controller (from the Functions menu on the copier LCD, select Run Setup).

                    19. Reinstall any backed up fonts, profiles, etc.

                        Re: Canon Fiery Q1 problem!!

With just the Power cable in, your Q1 should boot up Ready without any of the other connected cables (Communications cable,Ethernet crossover cable,Ethernet Straight cable(For network connection)-

                        have u tried that ?????

                        imagePress Q1 Firmware
                        /

u need to contact Canon or a Canon Tech (a networking tech)

To restore the system software of the Fiery Q1 you need the DVD 1 and 2 (FE1-6163-000 and FE1-6167-000) insert DVD 1 in the DVD drive and reboot the Fiery on DVD 1 this will format the HDD and reinstall the software later a message will prompt on the screen asking to insert DVD 2 when all done connect it to the network then run the setup turn on the DHCP then save the changes and after rebooting the Fiery print the configurations pages to see the IP address which will allow you to install the driver of this device.

Our server got the same error and we also don't have DVD. We ghost hard drive from another server which run normal, then every thing ok. You can try. Good luck.

Well unfortunately this is the only server I have since my company is really small. I am still trying to see if I can get the DVDs but they seem pretty expensive. I found one on ebay for about 500 USD.
