Canon IR 2016 paper size error

I have a customer whose 2016 has developed an odd fault. Every so often when copying it will stop and throw up the "check cassette paper size" message. I have checked the cassette, the connector board and even the document size detector.
has anybody come across this or similar errors? I would like to check all my options before ordering any parts.
    Thanks.

then is a sensor in the front of the machine just under the the lip of front cover of machine there is four small black sensor arms there.. you need to shim it out alittle bit so it makes better contact with the paper tray... have seen it get so bad that it does not see paper in tray at all...

thanks a lot, however i neglected to mention that the paper size actually remains the same in the display. I am going to try your suggestioin as it won't hurt to carry it out and who knows it may cure my problem anyway. Thanks again for your help.

        paper size

If the originals have been folded and not laying flat on the DF it can do this and or cause DF jams.

Seems feasible but it does the same thing regardless of whether you use the df or lay it on the copyboard!

Do they have any jam code 0104? If so replace 27t/50 gear (fb6-1633-000) with 40t/50t gear fc6-4390-000 in the #1 paper pickup assembly. This from Canon on this problem.

No, other than the message within the display and the obvious red light, there are no other messages.
The copier will complete its run before displaying this.
I believed it to be connected to the cassette size detector as if you open and shut it it will work for a while then throw up the fault later.
It works fine via the bypass, i'm considering changing the detector block anyway, but this has stumped three engineers thus far!
We must be stupid or there's something silly we're overlooking.

                Wow

I feel your pain. Try swapping the feed unit, Canon is having trouble with the #1 feed unit.

If you have a firmware version 09.09 Upgrade it to 61.02 This will resolved the problem..
