Canon scanner question

I have an opportunity to buy some very nice canon scanners Dr5020's and dr8080c's my question is these come tested and working but no software, I know i can get drivers from canons site but what about scan software? are these proprietary to capture perfect software or can you use any 3rd party scan software and what do you recommend?
These are in great shape and low scan counts but don't want boat anchors sitting around that need 600 bucks in software to run.

I've still got the busiest bank of the town that has the most millionares per square capita in ontario running on a dr-5020 via scsi connection for all their cheques. Just pm'd the sucker too, still works great just need to replace the motors when the steps wear down.

Client uses paperport from nuance altough the driver is what you're concerned with, the app are a dime a dozen.
You'll need the twain driver and some way of making it run on more than XP.
