iR1023 toner being used up too quickly

    hi folks,

what would cause drums to wear down faster and toner to get used up in around 5k pages? Changed the trans roller, dev has some faint lines but it's capable of printing a decent test sheet copy.

    Thanks a lot

what is % of toner coverage being used on paper
method for estimating 6% coverage is a typical business letter containing approximately 40 lines with 40 characters per line.

    5,000 k - is that just text

yep, mostly text, faxes, and invoices. The client has complained that the yields on her toner have been getting worse and worse and that the drum is filling up faster than what it used to when it was new. Spring is fine I took a look at that already. CQ is nice, bang on actually. Won't copy the lightest gradation nor hiliter, as it should be.

AETBL is at 5, toner save is on, Densities are all at normal mid levels.

What I'm thinking is happening is that the customer has the cheapest machine possible and expects it to be as reliable as an ir ADV 4000 or something along those lines.

        =============================

are they using CANON OEM TONER ?

this is usually a customer crying about product & misunderstanding of this message/
        "TONER LOW PREPARE NEW TONER"

1.The toner bottle of this machine can be used to copy the A4 standard original (ISO/IEC 19752 conformity) on about 8,400 sheets.
2.The number of prints that may be made after the first indication of the message "TONER LOW PREPARE
        NEW TONER"
is about 430 sheets (when copying an A4 standard original (ISO/IEC 19752 conformity))

there are two toner saving settings

        COMMON SETTINGS
        TONER SAVER MODE OFF(*), ON

        PRINTER SETTINGS
PRINT QUALITY IMAGE REFINEMENT: ON(*), OFF
        DENSITY: 1 to 9 (5(*))
        TONER SAVER: OFF(*), ON

Try to replace the developing unit, or if possible its doctor blade (dev cylinder blade); this blade controls the quantity of toner dispensed on the dev cylinder....the magnetic brush formation. A weak or defective doctor blade could be the cause of the trouble.
