[Jamming] Canon IR5055 having trouble using 28LB paper

For the first million copies this machine made there was no trouble with this type of paper.
Hammermill, 28LB, 100 brightness Says: for Color Copy Digital

It is a slick surface presentation type paper.

This paper used to be only run from 500 sheet drawer #3.
When that started having issues I replaced all feed tires on the feed assy.

Ok...it seemed to work for a couple of days. But the call came in again.
So it changed every feed roll in the machine. And started testing...

It didn't matter what drawer I ran it from the paper still, let's call it mis-feeds.
Most of time the paper doesn't leave the drawer it's in.
I can't hear it but I am assuming the rollers are sliding on the paper and not moving it.

But with it doing the same thing from all drawers and all the drawers moving regular paper perfectly...it has to be the paper!

So now what? The customer has been using this same paper for years and wants to continue to use it.

Are there special feed rolls for problem paper? Something to put on the rolls to make them tacky for a decent period of time?

No matter what I say the customer blames the machine and wants it fixed...I'm stumped!

    Thanks for your ideas!

    Does it run regular paper???
Sounds like a bad batch or a change in manufacturing.
I would try some to another 5050 type machine.

I have had a lot of trouble recently with paper that has static. Maybe you should try to show the customer that by sticking pieces of paper to itself or your shirt.

I would say its not the same as past years. Who knows what they changed in the production process. I agree with vigour. Try it in another machine

Did you set it as 28lbs or did you leave it as plain? If you set it for 28lbs do you still get jams? It could be the tires are trying to feed the paper too fast and it's slipping. Have not had one issue on any of my ir adv c50/52's feeding wise.

Re: Canon IR5055 having trouble using 28LB paper

I'm going to man-up here and say I am not a Canon Tech. (Team Ricoh) so I am learning as I go.
The customers Canon got lumped in with a whole office service contract...so here I am.

I have made good strides in learning the machine. And I do have a service manual, but I can't find a users manual online.

In reference to the above suggestion I set the machine to "28LB", I dug around for a few minutes the other day looking for
a way to do that. I think I even set it to 60LB (I know I changed it to something heavier) but still with the mis-feeds.

I believe it to be a paper issue and not the machine. But I don't want to lay down the law to the office lady unless I'm sure.

Any ideas on the Users Manual in PDF or thoughts on the feed issue?

Are you using oem feed rollers?

additional functions > 2+8 at same time > add functions again. Copier > Display > Jam
time jammed, time cleared, the tray it fed from and then the jam code. We'll need the most recent jam codes to see exactly what the machine is not seeing in time, or is seeing for two long. aka delay and stationary jams.

Get us those and we'll be able to help you better.
