The error code is unclear - if it is E009 then it could be as follows.

    1. Re-fit the connector of the fixing pressure releasing home position sensor.
    2. Re-fit J2006 and J225 connectors on the DC Controller PCB.
    3. If the symptom still occurs, replace the fixing pressure releasing home position sensor (PS13) with a new one (WG8-5772-000).
    4. If the symptom still occurs, replace the fixing motor (M3) with a new one (FK2-0478-000).
    5. If Step 4 does not work on the symptom, re-fit all the connectors of the DC Driver PCB.
    6. If Step 5 does not work on the symptom, replace the DC Driver PCB Assembly (FM2-8264-000) with a new one.

If it is E990 then it could be this.

When the locking Handle for the Process Assembly is turned to the locked position it re-positions a rack that opens the Waste Toner Shutters. When the rack is in the correct position there is a cut-out in the rack that unblocks PS12, if the sensor remains blocked an E990-0000 will be generated.

    Action
    1. Remove the Hopper Drive Assembly and the Hopper Assembly. With those items removed you will see a white nylon gear plate with 2 locking screws. Loosen the locking screws and position the gear plate so that when the handle is in the locked position, the cut-out in the rack unblocks PS12 (See photo below).
    2. Check the Lead Cam mechanism (on inside process frame) for any broken gears or a broken Lead Cam itself, item #24 FC6-9403-000.

Either way you need to seek the professional help of a Canon Tech.

    Cliff.

This is a fricking PITA to get rid of. Its next to impossible to even get to the stupid sensor. I cannot wait until the day I get to push my last 3380 into the hole at the dump.

I have since found out that the machine was moved prior to my visit from an office across town and the customer laid it down on its back inside an estate car and transported it laid flat on its back.

                  I've written it off.

I've got one left and we're starting to clear out the 3380's for ir adv c5000 series units. Now mind you I still have a 330 on contract that the guy simply will not replace, and he's a lawyer, big surprise
