SMB scanning or IRToolbox scanning with Windows 8

My customer updated their 32 bit computer with Windows 8.
I cannot get it to Scan to File with SMB using ethernet nor can I scan using
    IRToolbox using the usb cable.

I tried setting up the SMB scanning the same way as windows 7 that has always worked but no luck.

I tried loading legacy software in the device for using IRtoolbox but apparently I have the wrong scanner driver
    for windows 8.

    Any help would help..

      Current Versions of SMB

the current versions of SMB and what Windows Operating Systems use them

Here is a brief summary of the various SMB versions and where they live in Windows Operating Systems.

SMB 1 : This may not be an exact classification as it was the default version used in Windows Operating Systems prior to Windows Vista.

SMB 2.0 : This was one of the enhancements included with Windows Vista. In short, the aim of this was to reduce the amount of traffic generated by commands which are used as part of the normal operation of SMB traffic.

      SMB 2.1 :
This version showed up on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 with a new Opportunistic Locking Mechanism. Opportunistic locking is a feature that locks files and handles local caching of files in order that other users do not modify files at the same time. This feature is applies to other Windows Operating systems, but has been improved for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2.

SMB 3.0 : Windows 8 and Server 2012 use this version of SMB which includes the capability of SMB Direct Protocol, otherwise known as SMB over RDMA. Also included was something called Multichannel which supports multiple connections for an SMB session.

SMB 3.2 : This is part of the feature set included with Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2.

If for some reason a "push scan" to a computer running a Windows Operating System fails, please obtain the error code to help facilitate troubleshooting. If it is known that the Operating System being used has newer versions of SMB, please refer to KB 87403
Is it possible for the device to scan to a Server or Computer that is employing SMB 3 protocol

Microsoft has addressed these types of issues whereby a device that employs SMB 1 attempts to scan to a shared folder on specific types of operating systems. For information on the operating systems effected as well as information and instruction on applying what is defined as "Update Rollup", please click the following :

You cannot use certain third-party devices to send a document to a shared folder in Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2
