Canon IRC3480 Black Drum Being chewed up

I am having an issue with this canon IRC3480 I first went out and the canon needed a new drum because it was having Black lines on the pages. The OPC on the drum was worn off in many areas across the drum. I thought hey simple drum replacement. Well, 2 weeks later they call me out again for the same issue. The drum is chewed down to the OPC again in the exact same way. This time I replaced the entire black developer/drum unit and primary xfer belt unit there is nothing else coming into contact with the drum now after 2 week again they called me out for the same issue a 3rd time.

I am out of ideas anyone with experience on this machine have any ideas to look for on what could be eating my black drum. All the color drums are perfectly fine btw.

I have only seen this issue on the IRC 3080i series, the issue turned out to be the waste toner housing on the black drum not being fully open; it was not fully rotating with the black handle; so toner would build up along the cleaning blade, clump together as it had nowhere to go and physically score the OPC drum all the way through, which was pretty cool.

I would direct my attention to the process of waste toner collection from the black drum, test to see if it rotates properly, they can pop out quite easily.

from what I can tell the auger cap is not working properly on black. It does not turn the drum auger downward so waste toner can drop down. When I pull the black lever on the front i see the color augers move and drop the drum auger cap downwards but the black just sits there. I guess this is why I am having build up destroying the drums.

My question now is how to fix this lol. I spent over an hour trying to tear it apart to even see what that auger cap fits into but no luck. Got called away kind of frustrated anyway messing with it so long to get to such a small piece.

came up with this part number but cant find a picture for it. Since this is a non maint. customer I dont mind replacing an entire unit just whatever is easiest on me price isnt an issue,

Canon FM2-5517-000 not sure if that will get me done or not. I got to find a parts manual for this thing somewhere

Scratch is occurring because the auger spring inside the drum breaks and scratches the drum.

Replace the Waste Toner 1 Feed Assembly. Part number FM2-5530-000. It is item 66 circled below.





THAT NUMBER IS THE ENTIRE HOPPER ASSEMBLY=FM2-5517-000


When removing the drum cartridge, make sure that the shutter lever is at the 'Unlock' position.
If removing the drum cartridge from the machine while the shutter lever is not at the 'Unlock' position, and then mounting the cartridge again after shifting the lever to the 'Unlock' position, the shutter of the drum cartridge is not opened properly. Therefore,
toner does not get into the drum cartridge from the hopper assembly, and the spilled toner strays within the machine.
If removing the drum cartridge while the shutter lever is not at the 'Unlock' position, put the cartridge back and shift the shutter lever to the 'Unlock' position, and then, remove the cartridge.

yea its the auger in the drum gets full and then causes the blade to flip out and dump toner every where because the shutter to the waste toner isn't working properly. Thank You for the information.

Just one more question how time consuming is it to replace the auger assembly? or would I be best off replacing the ENTIRE hopper assembly that has the auger system already in it. I am looking for fastest time in fixing not money spent. Thanks !

As a workaround until you get the parts in; place a new black drum into the imaging assembly, then manually turn the black auger with your hand until it opens the waste toner on the drum, clockwise I believe, will work until you can sort it long term.

I wont lie its a fiddling job to get to that part and time consuming first time.
