C5185i setup - Waiting for Scanner error message.

Hi - we just installed a brand new C5185i. Machine is networked, prints, faxes and does everything else. For Scanner, the machine appears to be in an endless waiting period.

On the scanner tab, machine reads "Waiting...press the offline key to use other functions." and the copy button turns red until we change the machine to offline.

manuals no help. If you are close to cherry Hill and can fix, send me a PM and we'll hire you! Thanks!

Oh and we are running off Windows 7, all of the updated drivers have been downloaded directly from Canon.

did u install COLOR NETWORK SCANGEAR

To use the optional Network Scan function, the machine must be connected to a network, and must be separately switched online to the network.

If the machine is connected to a network that is online, scanning is not possible with the Copy or Mail Box function. By setting Auto Offline to 'On', the machine automatically goes offline when the Auto Clear mode initiates.


Keeping the imageRUNNER's scanner function (for Network ScanGear or Color Network ScanGear) in the 'Online' state even after a shutdown, reboot, or sleep?
1. Hit Additional Functions.
2. Select System Settings.
3. Press the 'Auto Online / Offline' option.
4. Select 'Auto Online' and turn it 'On'.
- You can print without setting the scanner function Offline.

- You will not be able to push scan to a destination via Universal Send or make copies with the scanner function Online. You will need to turn the scanner function Offline before doing so.

When trying to push scan from a copier with the Universal Send Kit installed, the light behind the Start key on the copier control panel turns red. Pressing the Start key does not scan in the originals to be sent.


Under the Scan tab of the copier control panel's LCD screen, the scanner must be set to Offline. The scanner only needs to be set to Online when scanning with Network ScanGear/Color Network ScanGear. When push scanning, set this to Offline.

Hi and thanks. I was able to scan from the computer using the feeder and the glass, can print and fax off glass and with feeder. Could it be something with the universal send program? it is an i version that is supposed to include the universal send. the old machine did this fine, unfortunately the company that sold me the used one that blew a fuser went out of business (taking with it my service contract money) and canon will apparently not service this machine that came new (old stock) on a pallet directly from Pitney Bowes. thanks, and if I can hire you to walk me through the process, I am more than happy to pay for your time.

Hmm, did I just figure it out after re-reading your post for the 5th time - in order to scan using universal send, I have to actually have it on offline as the default - online is only if I want to scan from my desktop? I cannot wait to try it in the am.'

Where are u trying to SEND docs to ??/

Sending a document to a shared folder on a Windows 7 operating system without having to authenticate


1. From the Control Panel select Network and Internet.
2. Select Network and Sharing Center.
3. Select Advance sharing settings.
4. Scroll down to Password protected sharing.
5. Select the option to "Turn off password protected sharing.
6. Select the Save changes button and file sharing without password protection will be enabled.







so this "Waiting " only happens when u press the SEND TAB ??
To Send documents to a fax destination, the optional Super G3 FAX Board or Super G3 Multi-Line FAX Board is required.

Techat - thank you very much. I actually think that you taught me how this thing works!

I am 90% there, and frankly am going to spend some quality time with the manuals this evening to bridge that last 10% (lol, the document actually showing up in the system after I scan with the name that I put in).

The problem was that I was trying to use the SCAN tab to SEND via network. Probably a rookie mistake, but since the guy who set this up for me could not resolve the issue, I don't fee "quite" as bad.

Bottom line...use Universal Send to scan(Push scan)....SCAN tab is for Colour Network Scan Gear(Pull scan)....which you don't need. Like Tek said,make sure it is set to Auto offline

Hello I have the same problem my screen keep on saying Waiting...press the offline key to use other functions.

it prints but I can not get in the the scan tab any help will real make my day.

if your customer does not need pull scanning you can remove the scan tab from the display in service mode level 2 Copier>option>body>UI-RSCAN set from 1 to zero than hit ok.
we set most of our machines up this way as it eliminates confusion for customers when trying to scan, and really not many places pull scan anymore.
