[Error Code] Ir5055 DADF-S1 "Duplexing Error Message

We replaced a "very sticky" DADF-S1 first side "reader roller". Upon finishing, copier warms up & then displays a message at the 1st screen, (before main screen) of: "Double sided, Duplexing is possible, but will be very slow! Please contact your service technician." The trouble is, I am the technician! This message is not in any of the DADF-S1 Portable or Service Manuals!!!! I have been told that it may be a mechanical issue. But no one knows how to fix it! Hytec board repair company said that when they have such a problem, they just try a 2nd feeder unit. This is not an option for us! I have contacted several friends in the business, that tell me they have similar issues from time to time. When this occurs, they too replace the feeder with another used one from their stock. No one seems to have a "definitive answer" to this issue. SURELY, someone has been persistent enough with this problem, to have come up with a list of possibilities or a course of action to try. I am a stubborn tech with the "will" to find the answer. But before I make another attempt, I wanted to check with some professional that has some suggestions. Thanks in advance!
This feeder by the way is installed on a Canon Ir5055..........

Different message, but look into that Comm Cable===have seen that cable cause weird issues
have u tried a combination of a MMI clear and MNCON clear

Make sure u have the USER P PRINTS to input settings/ also this could clear address book/ back it up

This issue can occur if the imageRUNNER loses communication with the CIS Unit in the Feeder.
Check the Feeder Cable on the rear of the imageRUNNER.
Make sure the cable is properly seated and that connectors and cable have not been damaged.

    CANON --Year 2007
    imageRUNNER 5055
Message on control panel when using document feeder. Two side copying maybe done but will be slow.

    Problem :
Image contact sensor in document feeder not working.

    Solution :
Try running two sided copies through document feeder. Check to see if original passes through feeder once or twice.
If twice, try replacing document feeder controller.

Thanks for your prompt reply! We tried removing, then flipping end to end, the comm cable. There was no change at the time. I suppose that I could replace the cable just in case you are correct. We also cleared the (1)mmcon & (2)MMI to no avail! The message we receive is essentially the same, except it appears after warm-up is completed, & the message takes up the entire display screen. There is a button that says to "continue". After you press the touch button, then the regular copy screen appears. The copier works in all ways, except that the feeder re-feeds the original for the double sided original. Thanks for your help!

Yep, I know what you mean 'D', in fact there are 3 of these Rollers in the DADF - I replaced the 1st one (just like you) and received the same 'slow feeding message', it seems the 'Rubber' material they are made of seems to 'melt' over a period of time - a bit like a Jellybaby on a toothpick - so these feed 'Rubber' rollers stick to the pressure rollers causing the feed mechanism pulses to the CPU to also be slow, creating the above message and if left too long will transfer to all the other rollers in the DADF - replacing the other 2 rollers is a big job ....but it works & also the Roller material appears to be different to the original type - I don't know of any other DADF that has used that type of roller material before or after the IR5055 series - good luck .

        Cliff.
