There's some information to that effect posted on this forum by a senior member, 'northenlife', about two weeks ago; its a technical bulletin from canon Canada inc., and it provides some useful insights about 'win.8 canon supported software version and caveats'.
Check slowly through the archive on previous pages, you should be able to find it.
    Good Luck!

Push Scanning to a Server or Computer that uses SMB 3

Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2

      Consider the following scenario:
      • You connect a third-party device, such as a multifunction printer, to a computer that is running Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.
      • The third-party device is configured to use a deprecated dialect of the Server Message Block version 1 (SMBv1) protocol to transfer files.
      • You create a shared folder on the computer. The device has read and write access to the shared folder.
      • You try to send a document to the shared folder by using the device.

In this scenario, you cannot send the document to the shared folder. Therefore, no file is created in the shared folder.

To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2887595. For more information about how to obtain this update rollup package, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 2887595 Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013-

Here is a brief summary of the various SMB versions and where they live in Windows Operating Systems.

SMB 1 : This may not be an exact classification as it was the default version used in Windows Operating Systems prior to Windows Vista.

SMB 2.0 : This was one of the enhancements included with Windows Vista. In short, the aim of this was to reduce the amount of traffic generated by commands which are used as part of the normal operation of SMB traffic.

      SMB 2.1 :
This version showed up on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 with a new Opportunistic Locking Mechanism. Opportunistic locking is a feature that locks files and handles local caching of files in order that other users do not modify files at the same time. This feature is applies to other Windows Operating systems, but has been improved for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2.

SMB 3.0 : Windows 8 and Server 2012 use this version of SMB which includes the capability of SMB Direct Protocol, otherwise known as SMB over RDMA. Also included was something called Multichannel which supports multiple connections for an SMB session.

SMB 3.2 : This is part of the feature set included with Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2.
