IRC2880 with DADF L1 asks to load 11x 17 when feeding 11" documents long way

IRC2880 dadf L1. Two paper trays. Upper set for 81/2 x 11R. Lower tray set for LEG. When documents are fed the short way there is no problem. When documents are fed long way (81/2x11R) then document goes in halfway and stops and the machine requests that 11x17 be loaded. I guess the machine thinks you are feeding an 11x17 document. When feeding document the long way you are engaging the first 2 original detect sensors on the feed in tray. It would seem that when 2nd sensor is engaged that the 3rd sensor which would normally be engaged when using 11x17 thinks there is paper there.
That is only an assumption as i am no expert on this machine. i did not try 14" on the dadf, which i should have done, so i don't know what that would have resulted in. The place is only a few streets from my office so i can walk over to try anything that is suggested. Any help is appreciated very much. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Your measurements must be in US? Are you talking letter, not A4 / A5 / A3?

Yes, the original documents are 81/2 x 11. The trays are set up properly for the designated sizes that are loaded which are 81/2x11R and LEG and set up for inches not other. Frank

Could be dirty/faulty sensor in DADF tray giving false reading or maybe try reinit the DADF in SRV Mode Tray Width.

Go in service mode and program the width guides. FEEDER\FUNCTION...highlight size, set guides, press ok. Do this for each size. This programs the VR readings. Good place to start. Also make sure COPIEROPTION/BODY/SENS-CNF is set to 1. Reboot if you have to change it

Thanks for the additional info Canuck. I was there yesterday and performed the width adjustment for proper original size detection and all went well except that i had a few jams. The right side door does not close properly due to a break on lower hinge area. Transfer unit does not come out when door is open.

Customer got machine recently and has had a few problems since then. Customer does only few color copies and has a Brother MFC9840 color printer. Customer does not use the finisher on the IRC2880 and it actually prevents machine from sitting completely in a recessed area so it has to be on an angle.

I have advised customer to get another machine from me which is B+W 31CPM with only 50K on it. I will apply good portion of recent labor cost toward purchase. It's a win,win situation for me and customer.

It doesn't pay to have a machine with all the additional features (color, finishing) if they are not being used and will only increase service. I think moving the machine from a tenant's office to custome'sr office was responsible for some of the service as it only has 119K black and 25K color. I am hoping to make change early next week.
