    [Misc] Bad printing

    Hi,
I have an old canon clc 1160 and the print out that I get has iron filing on it, when you touch the paper the color feels rough(believe from the yellow developer unit). Why is this happening? What can I do?
Also I can not apply gradation adjustment because of the weak yellow!(can not scan test print 1)
    Please help!
    Thank you.

    Re: Bad printing

Blimey! I havent worked on one of those for over 10 yrs! Havent even seen one in over 7 yrs or more! Basically the developer has a start dev in it, which after a while needs replacing. The start dev comes in a little bottle, which is made up of iron fillings and toner to be of the perfect mix. You need to take out the dev, hoover out all the old start/toner and then in service mode, add the new start and then Initilise it in service mode. Been so long now, Id have to read the manual if i was going to attempt it. hope that helps.

        *********;-'

Starter is being pulled from the developing unit.

First check to make sure that the drum resistance is 10 ohms or less on the drum shaft.
If not, add a drum ground Leaf Spring to the shaft. The part number for the leaf spring is (FA5-9308-000).

This leaf spring could also be damaged>bent out of place.

Replace the drum ground brush (FC1-1117-000) or, install the grounding leaf spring (FA5-9308-000)

        *******:-\
To check the ground place one meter lead on the edge of the drum and the other lead to frame ground.

A good ground should read 10 ohms or less of resistance, anything higher than 10 ohms means that there is a poor ground. , you may have a defective Developer Bias HVT.

In most cases, the AC to DC polarity was out of phase causing the developer to look as though it is being sucked or pulled from the developer assembly.

U may need to Replace the Developer Bias HVT, to resolve this issue. (Part Number: FG6-0908-000).
Have seen this a few times in the way-back past.

Wow!!..thank you for your repply!! two questions though
1.if all these are the solution shouldn't i get an error?(e020 for example )
          2. why only is the yellow developer and not all 4?

          thank you.

            😨No error e020--
Reason is u are still geting enough yellow toner supply to yellow dev unit to prevent error code.

Iron particles have no color, they are mixed with color pigment.

Remove all units to inspect, u can tell which and if all have this issue.

            Note:
These units have a life cycle, I used to replace them on heavy volume units.

Been a while since I seen one of those but worked on the clc series machines almost exclusively for a while. I seem to remember a problem with the brass bias tabs for the developers getting bent or having debris on them causing issues, pull out the developer assembly and look all the way in back, you will see a little brass contact, make sure its clean and high enough up to contact the dev assembly, you can bend them up a little with a spring hook if I remember correctly. could explain your yellow only issue. also make sure your salt sensor is clean. good luck and let us know what fixes it. Cant believe you can still get developer for that series wow.
