iRA 50XX random weak toner densisty / gradation issue

I now have two 50XX (one 5035 and one 5045) both with the exact same issue. The machine does short runs fine with no issues. On longer runs there will be banks of pages where the toner density of all four colors is extremely light. Once the copier pauses and does "adjusting gradation" i hear it turn toner screws and the colors come back vibrantly. This issue just started when it got extremely cold and dry outside. Possibly related??? Machines doing this have drums, developers, and ITB under 100% in life.

Is there a setting to adjust the frequency of the machine going into "adjusting gradation". It seems to go back to making good prints every time it adjusts.

Here is a picture of the weak densisty compared to a good print.

[QUOTE=barakandl;446571] it got extremely cold and dry outside[QUOTE]

Define extremely cold ? No more T-shirt (Mediteranian) or sub zero (Alaska) ?

Heating on inside -> humidity ?

Are you using Genuine Canon toner. If so these machines cannot sustain the density when doing long runs printing edge to edge solids.
I would suggest that they split these printing jobs in shorter batches so that the machine can keep up with the toner supply.

My guess would be exterior transfer roller. It is located on the right door.

Outside temps dropped to 20 degrees F. Inside temps at night drop to mid 60s when copiers not in use. 72 degrees inside temp during normal operation. Inside humidity is way down compared to summer 20-30%.

We are using genuine canon toner. This company tends to print powerpoints with solid backgrounds, but over 2-3 years, this is the first time i have seen this problem.

Is there a setting to adjust the frequency of "adjusting gradation" if it went into that more often, i think this issue would go away. I couldnt find anything besides frequency of wire cleans in service mode.

I will visually check the exterior roller and life counter.

            Thank you.

I just looked at your sample. It is definitely exterior transfer roller. Visually you will not be able to tell anything. How many copies?

One of the offending copiers nearest to me has 900,000 on the exterior transfer roller. Life is 500,000.... so yeah... good call i will get that replaced.
