Canon irc2880 #755 code TCP IP error

I've had this copier for some years now, I'm now using it in my own house connected to a network of 4 computers. Printing and scanning was working fine, today I tried scanning to a file (folder) using SMB and I got the #755 code - TCP IP error. I can print perfectly but I can't scan. I have tried many things, none of the fixes which have been explained in the forum have worked for me. I can browse on the copier trough my network and find my scan folder without a problem, but when I send the scan i get the error. Copier has a fixed IP, which has been properly set up on both the copier and the router.

It was working fine and I don't seem to point out what it is that changed this. The only thing I have recently changed is my ISP and the router, could this be it?

Fixes I tried out: I made sure I had no restrictions when sharing files on my network, I edited the 'scan folder' so that everyone has total control over the folder and i have edited the firewall to allow file and printer sharing (i even tried turning it off). I have tried sending the scan to all the computers in my network with no success what so ever.

    Any help will be appreciated.

With ISP and router changes, I will assume DNS settings may have changed.

I was using the DNS dynamic update function on the copier before changing router and ISP so this shouldn't be an issue, right?

If using DHCP check your gateway IP and DNS IP in the MFD.
Are they on the same subnet?
Is the modem/router set as static IP or set as a DHCP server ?
Have you set the modem auto obtain DNS from WAN?
Your MFD might be using your old ISP DNS settings.

Checked gateway IP and DNS IP in the MFD, they are the same as in router.
          Same subnet as well.
Router set as DHCP server. - I edited the starting IP address and the ending IP address in the MFD to match with the ones given in the router.
I haven't set it to auto obtain DNS from WAN. Its using a static DNS IP address.
I did change the DNS settings on the MFD, altough I thought having the dns dynamic update function was enough.

Thanks for the help BTW, didnt expect anyone to answer this fast.

Re: Canon irc2880 #755 code TCP IP error

...if its not caching anything most DNS systems do, to reduce traffic and load. domainnames and IP's usually don't change that often...

From Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5051/C5045/C5035/C5030 e-Manual - TCP/IPv4 Settings i undersatnd you still need to enter a DNS IP for the server. I'd try setting it to the current correct IP, or even better if you have a bit recent router, to the internal routers IP. It wil forward the DNS requests to the ISP's DNS server.

But you do not propagate your internal servername to DNS, do you ? And I doubt you have your own DSN server on your network. Why not user the IP of your server with the scanfolder ?

If it where me, i'd stubbornly re-enter and check all settings (IP, DNS, gateway, Server, Path, Password etc...), untill I get a 'wait, that can't be right' feeling on an item...

Re: Canon irc2880 #755 code TCP IP error

this is from the canon "universal send error codes" list:

              #755
              Cause Remedy
-You cannot send jobs because TCP/IP is not functioning
              correctly.
              -IP address is not set.
-When the machine was turned on, an IP address was not
obtained from the DHCP, RARP or BOOTP server.
-Check the TCP/IP setting on the Additional Functions
              screen.
              -Configure a correct IP address.
-Check and verify that the DHCP server is working
properly and there are enough IP address in the pool for
the server to issue to the devices on the network

              maybe this helps.

Re: Canon irc2880 #755 code TCP IP error

Yesterday I checked every setting, 1 by 1, everything was fine: Ip, subnet mask, DNS, gateway...
I tried to PING my PCs from the Copier and it works fine. Pinging from the PCs to the copier also works. I can still print and I can browse on the copier through my network to find my scanfolders without a problem, but when I send the scan I still get the same error code.
I have tried giving the copier a new Fixed IP, allowing it on the router, still doesn't work.
I have also tried using a switch to connect the copier to the network (I read this solution in a thread related to another Canon).

It was working fine a week ago, maybe the router has some sort of Firewall? I've checked all the settings and there seems to be no option to disable a firewall.
                Any ideas?

Re: Canon irc2880 #755 code TCP IP error

I doubt it is a firewall thing, it is for WAN/LAN, not for the int. LAN. Copier and PC can ping etc. so connection is fine. It's just the send to folder thats not working. Sounds like its either the spec. Protocol or access thats not working. Have you checked the user/password ? Maybe setup a new account on the copier for the scanfolder ?

Plug a crossover cable directly into a PC an the other end directly into the MFD.
You should be able to setup scan-to-folder directly for a test.
First ping localhost an confirm TCPIP is working on the PC.
Put a fixed IP into PC. eg 10.1.1.4 (network settings)
PC and MFD subnet mask 255.255.255.0
                    Turn off DHCP in MFD.
Set the MFD fixed IP to eg 10.1.1.8
Set the MFD gateway same as PC. ie 10.1.1.4
Set DNS don't care, for now 10.1.1.4 is ok.
                    Ping 10.1.1.8 MFD connection.
Set a share scanfolder in the PC an MFD an allow full shared rights an password.
                    Set sharepath in MFD \\10.1.1.4\scanfolder
                    Do a scan test.

I found a simple solution thanks to something you said.
I disabled DHCP on the Copier and the dynamic DNS update function and I made sure the DNS on the Copier was the same as the one set in the router.
Why would disabling DHCP work? I have it enabled in my actual router and I always had it on. Anyways, thanks for the help .
